I recently was reading on the Natural News site that there are certain foods that are supposed to help with depression. Avocados and other foods high in Omega three fatty acids, and they seemed to tout molassas alot, too. maybe she could trey adding those to her diet.
Depending on how severe (that is a harsh word) I would say that she see a Doctor. Severe post partum depression is nothing to play around with and although a diet change may help – if her hormones are out of whack and she’s sleep deprived – she may need more help then a diet change. You also have to take into consideration if she’s breast feeding or not. If she is – remember what she takes her baby takes and may not agree with. Best bet is that her Doctor knows what she’s experiencing and maybe a support group.
One of the best things she can do is exercise – like jogging. Jogging has been proven to be just as effective if not more than anti-depressants in many individuals. Of course, having such a small baby might make finding time to jog hard, but she could jog in place or on a trampoline in front of the TV. I agree with what EnjoyRaw wrote, if it’s severe, see a doctor. I have a psychologist friend who specialises in postpartum depression, so she can also see a cognitive psychologist and maybe avert drug taking.
