Whats the deal with JUNE BERRIES?

AKA Saskatoon berries. I remember as a child seeing these everywhere. They seemed to have a really hard skin but nobody ate them. I was often puzzled cuz they looked so pretty but people would warn me to not to eat them. I continue to see them everywhere. Now I find out, they are after all, edible and quite sweet. What’s the deal?

I’m sooo interested, where are you from? I thought I was knowledgable concerning berries but haven’t heard of a saskatoon berry… What color are they, do they grow on a bush or a vine?

For some reason I suspect these may have been confused with Juniper berries which are edible however there can be nasty side effects in some instances. Purely speculation on my part though!
