Fantastic I’ll be ordering!
Hi everyone. I just signed up. I just began reading about RAW diets. I have all of the equipment; however, my Vitamix is a very old hand-me-down from my mother. My question is this. When a recipe calls for Sunflower seeds – oftentimes it says to soak them, sometimes not. When using SF seeds, does this entail using the outer Hard shell part? Is there a reason why some recipes say to soak and others dont’?
Dorispin – Don’t ever use the hard shell part. Some recipes recommend soaking because the seeds will be creamier when you blend them. Always use shelled sunflower seeds for all recipes!
Thank you so much for replying, Winona. Really appreciate your help! Same with pumpkin Seeds? I should have included this in my first post.
Soaking your nuts and seeds will also make them “live” because it gets rid of the “enzyme inhibitor”...this means, easier digestion, lower fat content, and higher protein content. We soak them, rinse, rinse, rinse with clean water, then dehydrate them at a very low temp so they are crunchy again, but living, unless you want to use them in a dish and need them to be moist creating the creamier texture as Winona said. And yes, always soak without those hard shells on the outside.
Do the recipes in your book include tofu and light steaming? I noticed that some of the recipes on your website do.
And are there photos of the finished dishes with the recipes in the book, or just recipes without photos?
Thanks for your help…
Hi rawmama.
The book is 100% raw. Our first book, Vegan Fusion World Cuisine, and our restaurants are vegan – with cooked and raw foods. So the website has cooked and raw recipes.
There are actually no photos in the book except the cover image. We will start to share photos as we take them and post them online.
We just added a recipe from the book – our Live Moo Shu recipe to this site, with a photo.
For another recipe with photo from the book, Raw Ravioli with Sundried Tomato Sage Sauce, you can check out this link:

Thanks!
Hi Vegan Fusion! I wanted to tell you that I have the Vegan Fusion World Cuisine book and I love, love, love it.
Also, I am so happy to have Blossoming Lotus here in Portland, OR!!
Sadly, I can’t eat there because all of your raw food dishes have cashews in them and I’m allergic BUT I still love the fact that there is a restaurant here that offers raw food. Thanks so much!!
I’m looking forward to your new book :)
I thought cashews are never raw because they are boiled? Perhaps they are just in the vegan dishes and not the RAW dishes at the restaurant.
Hi Jellibi, Thanks for your kind words. We live here on Kaua’i and are involved in the Restaurant and Juice bar here. ALoha, Mark
I grew up on Kauai and LOVE your restaurant! I am not a vegan, but it was definitely one of my favorite places to eat anyway!!! Had lots of friends work there too! My favorite smoothie at the juice bar is the Cloud Nine! OMG SOOOOOOOOO GOOOOD!
VeganFusion, i bought the idiot’s guide a couple of weeks ago in my local bookstore, and am quite happy with it. so far the recipes have been fairly clear and the information is great. it’s nice to know that if i have questions about a recipe i can ask the author! do you appreciate feedback on your recipes?
Thanks Domesticgoddess. Jennifer Murray created the Cloud Nine. She did most of the recipes in the Idiots Guide book.
Hi Lalala, please do email me with any questions and we love all the feedback you can offer on the recipes so we can perfect them!
Best wishes, Mark
