Sprouts: to juice or not to juice?

steviostevio Raw Newbie

I am adding sprouts to my daily food intake. Having just read Anne Wigmore’s book on the subject. I have ordered up some equipment and seeds, and am looking forward to my first harvest already.

I bought some at the store, and blended them into a smoothie, and they are definitely a little grassy tasting in that context, so I am wondering about juicing them. Any nutritional downsides to taking my sprouts in juice form if I am still drinking green smoothies?

  • I’m not sure if there are any juicier sprouts or nutritional downsides if you juice them. They are good to eat on their own or with little chopped toamto/cucumber/cilantro/lime juice dressing for beany sprouts. Please check my recipe, if you don’t like to eat them on their own. http://www.goneraw.com/recipes/1794-Sprout-Sala…

I juice mine sometimes, as well as adding them to smoothies (yes, they’re a little grassy tasting – haha) and I love eating them plain or on salads.

The only downside I can see is losing the fiber, which also has its value. I couldn’t imagine how much you’d have to use in order to juice a tiny bit! I’m thinking alfafa here, but there are so many other types. But juicing has its merits, as well we know.

I am not concerned with losing the fiber, as I drink a lot of green smoothies and eat whole fruits and veggies, this would be in addition to that, not in place of it. I am just hoping to hang onto the nutrients (especially the amino acids). I am sort of viewing this like I do wheatgrass (which I am also planning on growing and juicing), which is extra nutrients, not extra food.
