another sprouting question

Hi everyone,

I have tried to sprout beans a number of times, but by the time they actually sprout, they smell bad, and I have to toss them. I rinse them a few times a day… should I do the sprouting in the fridge?

  • What kind of beans are you trying to sprout? May be you are rinsing too many times in a day. I’m not sure, but try rinsing not more than once in 8 hours, and drain completely after rinsing. This is perhaps more important.

    Hi,

the last time I tried white soy beans and chickpeas. The soy beans doubled in size quickly, and had tiny sprout-lings pretty quickly (like overnight). I probably rinsed them 2 times during the day and again in the morning. I dont have cheesecloth, so there could have been too much water left on the bottom. Do you use cheesecloth?

  • No, I don’t have cheesecloth, but I drain them completely by shaking vigorously. You can try keeping the jar in a tilted position for around 5 minutes after rinsing, and drain the remaining water again.
