Swissmar Borner vs. OXO Good Grips Mandoline

I’m in the market for a mandoline and these two are in the final running. Anyone have either of these and care to offer an opinion? Or if you’ve got some other brand that you love I’d gladly consider other options. Thanks for any advice.

  • Thanks for the feedback.

Rawrocks – the Borner you own is exactly the one I’m considering. Glad to hear you’ve been happy with it.

The reason I’m still undecided is because the OXO one has “feet” and the Borner doesn’t. I have no clue whether feet are an advantage or a disadvantage. Seems like feet would offer more stability..?

  • Thanks for the feedback everyone. Yup, rawrocks, the OXO to amazon is the one I was considering. And, in fact, the negative feedback on the OXO is what lead me to posting here in the first place. I’d read this http://www.bookofjoe.com/2004/09/worlds_best_ma… and was all set to buy the OXO then I saw the comments and began to wonder…Seems as though the world is divided into people who’ve tried mandolines and almost killed themselves and now hate ‘em and those who’ve almost killed themselves but managed to get enough practice with proper technique and now love ‘em. I think I’ll get a kevlar glove and the Borner. Sounds as though the Achilles’ heel with all mandolines is the holder. I’ll post back once I’ve bought one and tested it out. Thanks again!
