Lunchbox recommendations?

I bought Laptop Lunchboxes for my kids a few years ago. (http://www.laptoplunches.com/) I loved the shape, the little compartments that saved on waste and the size. But they were horrible. They were hard to open, and once opened, they were hard to close. My kids’ lunches were always a mess!

So, what I’m looking for are bento style lunchboxes, especially with the little reusable containers inside, that actually close easily – maybe with clasps or something? Maybe in a stainless steel rather than plastic? Does anything like this exist??

  • Thanks for all the suggestions! I also found these adorable bentos. http://shop.iloveobento.com/

I emailed them to find out what they are made of, since I couldn’t find anything online. I’ll let you know what I found out. My kids have already picked out their favorites, so I hope I can order some! Too cute!!! Be sure to check out the gallery to see the beautiful food people have been putting into their bentos!!

  • I heard back from iloveobento.com. Here is their response:

Most of our boxes are made of PP or polypropelyne which is the safest plastic for food use at a wide range of temperatures. Some of the boxes (most that are made in Japan) are composed of ABS (Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) which is a resin that is chemically inert and so does not transfer chemicals, much of our plumbing in the US is made of this plastic. Most trouble from plastic comes from inappropriate temperatures being used with the wrong plastics. You probably already know all that! So these two materials are the safest for hot foods. I know I am extra-super-mega-careful with anything that comes into contact with my children! So it’s good to see parents checking into these things.

They aren’t stainless steel, but they are the shape and style I was looking for for my kids.
