Bleach alternative and dryer sheets

I’ve been using soap nuts for a few weeks now and they are okay. I’m not crazy about them, but I’m happy that I’m no longer polluting the water and our clothes. However, my washclothes and dish towels are looking mighty dingy since I’ve stopped using bleach. Any solutions? They smell stinky too – no clean at all. I broke down and bought some Method dryer sheets because I couldn’t take the vinegary smell of our laundry and the static. So if you have any solutions for that I’m all ears. I tried essential oils…I didn’t notice any improvement.

    Nature clean products look awesome, but they ship from canada and the shipping charge was rediculous!! Any US alternative?

    Thank you, everyone, for all the helpful suggestions!

    I’ve been adding white vinegar to my wash, and it has really helped with the smell and the softness! As for the whites, I’m going to try some hydrogen peroxide mixes.

    Amysue- I grow lavender every year – maybe I’ll try to make some of my own sachets! I never thought of that!!
