Hemp vs Flax

Why do almost all bread/wrap/cracker recipes call for flax? I understand that it holds things together well but I have concerns about it and prefer not to include it in my diet.

On the other hand, I love hemp. Can it work as a substitute? What are some good substitutes?

    CheeChee, I have similar issues. My husband is allergic to flax. You will see several hemp recipes if you click on my picture.

    Hemp is not necessarily a one-to-one substitute for flax. chia has the binding properties that flax has and is a bit cheaper than hemp. you can play around with ground sunflower seeds as well. i promise to post anything that i make that works without flax!
