Yes, you would definitely need to pit the dates first. Most recipes also call for soaking the dates a bit to soften them up. Just curious . . . which recipe are you preparing?
Thank you so much! I had actually put my 2 cups of dates into my vita-mix without pitting!!!...and sensed that wouldn't be correct, so my wonderful husband spooned out the gunky mess and found all of the pits for me. I made the raw brownies with dates, cocoa, pecans, and agave. I also felt that I was going to burn the motor up while processing the dates. So maybe if I soak them next time they will be easier.
