  • As many as I needed to, in order to be healthiest. ;) The weight I am now is not the same as then, either. I am focused on health & I refuse to focus on weight, as I feel it is secondary to health, or that a healthy weight is a result of a healt…
  • Experiment with some recipes now. I find that even when I'm busiest, it's not too hard to eat well now that I have several recipes I like that don't take very long to make. Zoe's "Cheese With Spring Onions" from this site is one I really like.

  • Eloisa - have you tried eating more nuts/seeds/grains/bananas/avocados/dates? I seem to gravitate toward eating more calorie-dense foods when it's cold. Also, a way I like to get my greens in the wintertime is to make kale salad (look up "rock &…

  • Better when I take a vitamin D supplement. :)

  • I agree with Meditating. Often studies are published with someone's opinion of what the results indicate, when the study may not have been done in a way to make sure the conclusion is accurate. Often studies are planned in a way to more likely produ…
  • Welcome, and congratulations on making positive changes in your health & taste buds. :)

  • Move to the desert ;)
  • I have the best success feeling great & staying raw when I eat whatever I want as long as it's raw. When I got the cooked starches out of my system, I was able to know what my body needed much more easily. I feel a lot better eating more fat, or…
  • Hemp seeds are a MUCH better source of protein than soy (in my opinion/experience). If you're looking for a good way to get extra carbs/calories, and also want complete protein, you could make the shake I like: 1/4 cup hemp seeds, 2 cups water, 2 - …
  • Ooh, meditating! that sounds so good!
  • Congrats on your "tiny new member" to come! :)

  • Where do you FIND reduced produce? I only once in a while see bananas marked cheaper. No reason not to save some money, unless the stuff is rotten/moldy. :) Here's a tip: whether marked cheaper or not, sometimes kale is pretty wilted if it's been in…
  • Woohoo! Good for you! I love it. I agree - it's hard NOT to be raw when you feel so good. :)
  • I recently learned that first aid for hypothermia includes a "sugary drink" - I think that's why the dried mangoes have been warming me up. Any quick-acting carbs should do the trick - dates, etc.
  • I LOVE adding fresh ginger & a little lime to my green vegetable juices!
  • If you use rice in a bag, don't heat in more than 1 minute, or you may get burned. It gets really hot very easily. Another idea I had is to make a blender soup (put some kind of fat - avocado, hemp seeds, etc. in it for creaminess). Pour it into a Z…
  • If you're aiming for 100% raw, then vegetable broth isn't any more raw than any other cooked food - you're right. I eat more nuts & seeds in the winter. I also eat "heavier" greens, like kale instead of lettuce. I also eat more broccoli, cabbage…
  • The pretzels are coming from the store...I love it! So true. :P
  • Ooh, I need to make some seed/nut cheese. :)
  • The Soya-Kaas that pirawna mentioned is not raw. My system likes raw goat milk cheese much better than Soya-Kaas or any other storebought cheese, dairy or not.
  • It's vitamin B 2, not B 12. :) Good luck - the snack tray sounds like a great idea!
  • Cravings aren't always a bad thing; you just have to understand them. A friend of mine who ate healthy before pregnancy found herself craving ham & cheese on white bread. She was frustrated about it, until I told her that cheese & enriched w…
  • If you want sunflower greens (baby sunflower plant), you need a sprouting tray, and you need to start with the sunflower seeds that are in the shell - black shell ones are recommended. Soak overnight (they float, so it's tricky to keep them under th…
  • Oh, sad for your friend. :( "As if her way is working better" - :D Haha! That's exactly what I was thinking about the person who asked me if I'm getting all the nutrition I need eating this way - he asked me if there's anything I'm missing. I was th…
  • www.nutritiondata.com has some of the raw foods, but not almond milk (just almonds), and no specialty raw stuff like raw cacao, agave, etc. zucchini breath - I eat lots more than a half-cup of nuts, on lots of days. I pooped 5 times yesterday. :D I …
  • Thanks, rawaholic! I've been on the lookout for a recipe similar to that one! Now I can tweak it to my liking instead of trying to create a whole new recipe - that looks great!
  • It is iron that is best consumed with vitamin C to maximize absorption, not calcium with vitamin C.

  • Funny; I just made some crackers with chia seeds in them - they're in the dehydrator now - I just wish they weren't so expensive! Also, 1 cup of chopped kale has 9% RDI of calcium & 6% RDI of iron.

  • TomsMom - Oh, sorry, I was tired when I read it last night, I guess. :P Sesame seeds do have more calcium per cup than almonds, but I just can't stand the bitter taste of sesame seeds enough to eat very much of them. I'm looking here for ideas to ge…

  • I looked up nutrition info. for turnips, and one large turnip only has 5% of the daily intake of calcium. I don't think I could eat (or drink) enough turnips to get very much calcium. :P
