  • kindaraw – The Blood Type diet was the best thing ever for me – it was the one thing that made the most sense with what I had already learned about my body’s reactions to foods & overall diet. Raw has replaced the blood type diet for me, but it …

  • The law about almonds says that almonds have to be pasteurized if they go through a “handler” – like whoever buys them from the farm and then sells them to stores, or the stores thamselves maybe. But, you can buy them from the farm and they don’t ha…
  • Sorry, had to be silly :P Anyway, I have found that the nuts that are really raw are great for me, especially soaked/sprouted, so I have stopped eating a lot of the nuts that I had, until I can afford to order the really raw ones. Best of luck :)
  • acne is usually due to your body detoxing – getting rid of all the garbage stored inside – and a lot of it comes out through the skin. Green juices and warm water enemas help clear the colon so more toxins get out quickly without having to come thro…

  • For winter, I eat more nuts, kale, cauliflower, good fats, etc. Is there a specific reason you want a critique/change of diet? Your diet sounds wonderful for just starting out!

  • Karuna – Woohoo! And don’t worry – just go at your own pace – wishing you well. :)
  • I tried raw once because of illness, desperation and fear. Didn’t last. Almost a year later, I came to a place in my life where I only wanted to take in what was really best for me, and I naturally was drawn to raw very quickly. Now, I have gone bac…
  • Alix mentioned salt – I have had problems with this a lot! I used to just use flax, avo, etc. and drank lots of water, but lately I have been guzzling young Thai coconut water like crazy, and I realized I must need the electrolytes. I use sea salt, …
  • For me, the foods my body likes/doesn’t like in combination are different all the time. What worked together one day might make me sick the next. I don’t worry about the “rules” and just try to give my body what it needs.

  • I use raw cacao to balance my hormones naturally – I only eat it when i crave it, and then I eat it as much as my body wants it, and my periods have become what feels good to me, and I have no symptoms of PMS. The sunfood brand is the only one that …
  • So glad we have apple trees :)
  • I’ve read that freezing for a long period of time kills the enzymes. I don’t know what “a long period of time” is, but I love to do what Karuna said, and buy lots of fresh fruit in the summer and freeze it myself. At least I know it’s fresher than t…

  • Portabellas are my favorite. I make spinach-stuffed mushrooms sometimes out of the baby portabellas (crimini). I made a raw pizza the other night and put tons of sliced mushrooms on it with my other veggies, and one night recently I just broke off c…

  • lentils are better than garbanzos – never bitter! I think you do need to sprout them, but they only take 2 days or less. I just put some in to soak. Soak them 5-6 hours or overnight, then rinse twice a day for one or two days – they grow fast :)

  • Sprouts are the best source of enzymes, because they are still growing. I don’t know about berries, but if you have the time and interest, I have found it interesting to look up the nutrition/health benefits of the foods I crave, to see what my body…
  • Using huge bowls here, too – I love it! Eating a serving of salad/vegetables bigger than your head? Sounds great :)
  • Things like that happen a lot. No worries. :) I often have to go tell the managers/employees at my health food store that this or that item does not belong in the raw food section. The guy at one of the stores was telling me that yes it was raw, bec…

  • Mushrooms actually work really well, also broccoli and zucchini. As long as your marinade has salt and either lemon juice or apple cider vinegar, it will soak into and usually soften most veggies; some just take longer than others.
  • I don’t know about specific lists, but I know that elevated insulin levels can cause inflammation, and that ginger is supposed to reduce inflammation. Meat reportedly raises insulin levels like high-glycemic foods do, so I can’t imagine that being o…
  • Try my “chocolate ice cream/pie filling” and maybe start with less chocolate powder. It isn’t fudge, but it works in any strong blender & it’s really creamy & yummy! Making it into a pie helps cut the richness, too. You also wouldn’t need as…

  • I have started making chocolate milk (drink) creamy by using young coconut meat. I’m thinking maybe you could make the walnut brownies from this site and use young coconut meat in it (and less chocolate powder) to make more of a milk chocolate flavo…
