  • You can certainly buy ground flax meal, but it's much cheaper to grind it yourself (my $10 coffee grinder does just fine) and it's also more nutritious when it's fresh ground.

  • Tabbycats, what a wonderfully encouraging story! Your students are lucky to have someone like you who is willing to engage them and get them thinking about the impact of food. And you're lucky to be surrounded with such beautiful open, souls (seouls…
  • I've made kale chips with sunflower seeds before. The flavor isn't as good in my opinion but it works just fine. Like Sv3 said you'll probably need to adjust the seasonings. Cashews have a "neutral" flavor but sunflower seeds add a different taste.
  • I would think it's too slimy and wet to be used for anything edible - but you can always dump it in the garden!
  • I have good luck searching Google video for yoga classes - you can select the video length you're looking for to find real classes. I usually try to watch them one time through so I know if it's something I feel like doing. I have also been successf…
  • Somewhere on here I have a mock salmon pate that can be made with butternut squash or pumpkin. It's delicious.

  • Honestly I have no advice but good for you! Fermenting is so awesome.

  • Is it late-day tiredness too, or just morning? Personally I wonder if you're eating enough in a day to sustain energy. But definitely as your diet becomes cleaner and more natural/organic you will notice things like smells more keenly. As for the de…

  • I love using the spiralizer on beets, golden beets especially. Big fat carrots are great too. I totally know what you're saying about the visual appeal. Sometimes when I'm making salads I'll spiral instead of slice some of the veggies just because I…
  • I don't think the taste is appreciably different than green kale in a smoothie.

  • Which wagon did you fall off of? The raw wagon or the vegan wagon? I've not fallen off the vegan wagon because I consider eliminating animal suffering to be more important than my own wants. Focusing on something outside of yourself/your ego and the…
  • Okay, I'm just making this up, and it may be crazy, but: thinly slice some fennel and marinate it with sun-dried tomatoes in some water. This gives you the flavor of sausage. You can mince it together and maybe dehydrate it a bit. Use almond meal to…
  • Sv3, what a great story. Earthlings is such a great motivational tool!

  • I just mentioned this to someone else with the same question, but I consider animal suffering to be more of a motivator than satisfying my own wants. I'm honestly not tempted by foods that represent animal exploitation...so personally I find it help…

  • I've got no problem with soy, but I truly prefer almond milk - and it's SO EASY with the Vitamix. Plus I finally got a nut milk bag, which I don't know why I didn't buy years ago.

  • I refrigerate young coconuts since they're a very fresh food, whereas brown coconuts are almost like a dried food. However, eventually the young ones will go bad. I would estimate they keep about 3 weeks in the fridge. If you have a fairly decent-si…
  • I find that there is much conflicting and contradictory information on allergies - this being one of them. What causes food allergies is pretty much unknown, and there are a lot of 'old wives' tales.' I wouldn't let it bother you if you're feeling g…

  • I make a mock salmon pate with walnut and pumpkin (also works with butternut squash). It's on this site.
  • I have another mock tuna recipe here since I wasn't happy with any of the others - http://www.goneraw.com/recipe/another-mock-tuna
  • Actually few fruits and veggies will survive extremely high temperatures. Being attached to the tree or the vine gives them a little bit of defense against the heat, but more than likely you'll start to see your tomatoes shriveling and your greens b…

  • Soups! Try cucumber/spinach for a creamy juicy soup. Since you have a dehydrator, try doing the kale chip recipe with spinach.
  • That sounds normal. Honestly I don't know what to do besides eat them - maybe puree/blend them and freeze? Or use for fruit smoothies? They're pretty rare - the only people who ever sell them around here are the Asian markets and the one Asian vendo…
  • The only real antidote for spicy is dairy - that's why they serve sour cream on the side at Mexican restaurants. If you don't do dairy, toss it. Trial and error!
  • Do you have a spiralizer? I posted a beet pasta recipe that's really good. I love using beets for pasta.

  • Please don't look at raw food as a way to heal yourself of such a serious issue as alcoholism. This is an addiction you will need help surmounting through counseling, supportive friends and family, perhaps even medical assistance. AA is a great sugg…

  • Also look into Dr. Neal Barnard's diabetes research with NIH - probably considered more credible than the websites. I don't know if he goes into causes much, but IIRC, he explains in one of his books that the pancreas produces a certain amount of in…

  • Sorry, I didn't read the previous responses, but ginger and mint are both soothing for the digestive system.
  • You can also do an Asian-style dressing/sauce with zucchini - nama shoyu, garlic, ginger, lime or orange juice - with sprouts, mushrooms, bell pepper, whatever veggies sound good to you.
