  • Vegan 20+ years, Newly Raw!!!

Hi! My name is Melinda and I'm from the Cleveland, Ohio metro area. I'm currently pursuing my MBA and a new professional position in IT service desk or systems engineering.

    Anyway...

I've been vegan for over 20 years. Throughout that time I toyed with the idea of going raw, however just as when I was a vegetarian and had thought about becoming a vegan and at the time that seemed overwhelming I felt that going raw would be too difficult, so I never did it.

Lately vegansim, and raw veganism, have become far more accessible. There are so many resources now I don't feel like I have an excuse anymore, not that my initial "reasons" were more than flimsy excuses.

One part of my decision to go raw was actually dealing with my meat eating friend when we go out to eat. He says that veganism (and according to him even vegetarianism) is "so hard". I couldn't believe what I was hearing! With so many choices out there today at restaurants compared to 20+ years ago I just couldn't believe my ears. So being vegan is HARD? Laughable!!! That got me thinking about raw, and how raw wouldn't be hard for me, that this idea was an illusion/excuse only defeating my health and weight management goals.

I decided to go raw for my health. I had it with being a junk food vegan who sometimes would eat properly for a few days, just to revert to Daiya Mac and Cheeze for all 3 meals on some days. I just can't believe I was living like that!

I've been 100% raw for 2 days. In just this short time I notice how exercise is easier and I feel more alert, more lively. I feel like dancing around my living room, a major improvement over before. I feel like while eating I'm having a Zen moment of body+soul nourishment. I feel like eating is something important, not to be rushed. Also we are what we eat, therefore no more vegan junk food! I don't even crave it (yet...I'm preparing myself mentally for that). I feel great and want to continue to feel even better. :)
