Joined October 10, 2008
New to this. Started Sept 1 2008. But it’s been a natural transition from ‘mostly’ vegan to ‘mostly’ raw. I started for health reasons. (Nothing worked to get the weight off – and believe me I’ve done just about anything that makes logical sense. From weight watchers to lower carb) It was part of trying to detoxify my life. (I have a teenage son so there’s only so much ;) )

I’ve been very pleased so far. While it’s part of a bigger lifestyle change (I also changed to a less stressful job) I’ve started to lose weight, my blood pressure is down (I’ve had high blood pressure for years and I’ve significantly reduced my meds and hope to cut them out eventually), my blood sugar is fantastic (I’m not diabetic but my mother and sister are) and I’ve not had a migraine or allergy problem since I started. (I’m also over 50 and postmenopausal.)

My exercises of choice are weight lifting, walking and kickboxing (with some wii thrown in lol). So I thought energy would be a problem. Not so much. I’m still trying to figure out the endurance part of it and timing of my workouts but it’s going well so far.

My initial entry was via The Raw Food Detox Diet. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to try/transition to raw. I had minimal problems with the transition. I started at level 3 (there are 5) since I had a pretty healthy diet already (in relation to the rest of Americans). I would also tell “newbies” that you can still get a lot of the benefits without being 100% raw.

Thank you all for this board!!
