High Fevers

Hi all -

I have been about 60% raw for about a year and a half now with some occasional animal product every now and then. I feel great, lots of energy. I eat lots of leafy greens and have a shot of wheatgrass almost daily. My only problem is that I'm getting sick about 6 - 7 times a year. When ever I get sick I don't have many other symptoms besides a very high fever for about a day or two. Then it goes away. Never was much of a fever person before raw, but when I got sick I had more symptoms. The fever can get as high as 104

Do you think the fevers are a sign that my immune system is strong and I'm fighting off the bugs?

Before I went raw, on reading all the books and reports I formed very high expectations that I will have absolutely no kind of sickness if I go raw. However, I have had several occurrences of flu and cold this winter - probably a bit more often than my pre-raw period. However, like you say, I seem to be able to handle it better and mostly without any medicine.

If your fever is gone in a day or two, that sounds like a good immune system. I add some kelp to my smoothies every day to bolster my immune system. What do you use for improving immunity?

  • It's a good thing to have your immune system challenged occasionally, you don't want to *never* be sick. I think your experience is an example of a good immune response. A fever is the body's first line of defense. While it's busy making antibodies, it does take some time to produce them and get them in circulation, so it tries to kill things off with heat in the meantime. What makes your experience good is that the invader seems to be taken care of quickly, it's not progressing to cold or flu symptoms. :)

Yes, I read those too:-) All I can conclude now, is that that isn't common, or over exaggerated. My explaination, health is more than just diet. Nothing makes us bulletproof (or virus proof). Even healthy eating.

  • stop randomly eating animal products!

  • Though many people have some degree of reaction to dairy, if it didn't bother you before, I would doubt the randon animal products are suddenly causing a fever. I would guess your immune sysem is just doing what it should.
