Okay, my husband and I are going to spend the day after Christmas with a friend who is an elderly lady of about 90. This will be her Christmas celebration. We want to get her a gift in the $50-$60 range. I find it extremely difficult to shop for older people. Oftentimes, they have everything they want and their needs are simple. I don’t know what to get her! Do you have any ideas??
You ask, what is she interested in, what does she like? I don’t know. She watches a lot of TV, and I think she goes out every once in awhile to play cards or bingo or something. Help!

Hi RawVoice~ How about a very soft, snuggly blanket so she stays toasty watching TV? How about something that comes once a month so she gets little surprises thoughout the year (fruit, chocolate, variety of stuff)? How about a coupon or make arrangements that you will take her “out on the town” or “on a country drive”, something out of the house? Just a few thoughts.
I work with the elderly and have to agree with Bluedolfin, they seem to love anything to keep them warm ie; throw blankets, robes,slippers/gripper socks ( with rubber soles to reduce risk of falls ). Our ladies also love nice smelling lotions and little candy treats that they can share with visitors.
spirit just triggered other ideas… a gift certificate for a pampering session somewhere nearby, a massage, or simply a haircut. I’m thinking of things along the lines of someone feeling loved. valued, and cared for… we all need more of that. :) Your turn spirit. LOL
I second what Bluedolfin wrote about a pampering sessions. My mom is in fluctuating health and often unable to get out of the house for long periods of time. She feels like a new person when she goes and gets a haircut, especially as everyone at the salon makes a big fuss over her. I also think a massage or perhaps some kind of energy work like reiki or polarity (if the lady is open to it) would be a great gift.
