Dehydrator Woes

I’m having problems with foods sticking to the supposedly nonstick sheet in my dehydrator. I have a round, center-heated dehydrator from 1984 and I won’t be able to afford a nice, new one for at least a few months. The book that came with the dehydrator recommends using Pam cooking spray or other “natural” vegetable oil, but I’m not sure how I feel about that. I’ve considered using olive oil or coconut oil but concerned they may alter the taste of the foods I’m dehydrating.

Any suggestions??

Thank you, Adria

  • Hey Adria,

I have the same problem with my dehydrator. A light coating of raw oil does the trick. I use olive oil for savory dehydratables (!) like crackers, and coconut oil for fruits and other sweets.

I use natural wax paper sprayed with olive oil in my dehydrator. I don’t even have any nonstick sheets. The only drawback to this is that you can’t reuse the wax paper. Just use a light coating of olive oil (or other raw oil of your choice)
