brand new

I am brand new to raw. I was wondering if any one has any useful tips or meal plan ideas to help me get started…

here’s a good forum on this:

    1) keep it very simple at first (exciting salads, fruit, homemade dressings, etc…) and learn some new recipes. i went to a gourmet raw food restaurant which gave me some ideas and inspired me to go it alone. you may want to go see what others are “uncooking.”

    2) it will take you a while to figure out how much of certain ingredients you’ll be needing, and it will change as your body changes.

    3) you can’t go wrong with greens. green juices, green smoothies…

    4) keep salad dressings on hand. blend them up so you always have something delicious to pour over your greens and veggies.

i can give you some more specific recommendations if you let me know what you are eating now, what you like, and when you have free time…

If you like fruit, keep plenty on hand to eat every few hours. What appliances do you have? We can suggest some favorite recipes. For ideas on what folks eat every day, visit this forum:

  • when i first started, i needed lots of dense foods like bananas, larabars & nuts. i also ate big salads for dinner and smoothies for breakfast most days. i found that whenever i craved anything, i could just eat a banana, and it mostly went away.

moxandspaceships: It might be a good idea to be gentle with yourself. Don’t be hard on yourself if you find yourself bingeing, or if you’re not making the “progress” you think you should be making. Some people go 100% raw overnight, others take months or even years to get to the right level for them, whether it be 70% or 80%. :)

    Hi Moxandspaceships

I think that it is handy to make a habit of trying out new recipes, and experiment with new flavours and ingredients. When you have cravings, get something positive out of it by trying out recipes that might help satisfy what you are craving. It is not necessary to feel deprived because you’re not eating cooked food. Filling any potential gaps with truly delicious alternatives and having these things on hand all the time really helps in the beginning. Congratulations for finding raw food!!
