canned fruit?

hey…obviously fresh fruit is better for you but I hate when I buy fruit that I don’t eat on a regular basis, half the time it goes bad (esp. pears and pineapple). Is the kind that comes in a can or plastic cup raw? I’m not planning on making this a staple but for some times/products it would be helpful in not wasting what little cash I have! And for travel…ripe pears bruise SO easily.

LizK: fruit that comes in a can or plastic cup is not raw. It has been pasteurized (cooked) so that it can be stored on shelves without bacteria developing. I recommend freezing fruit. You can use frozen fruit in delicious smoothies. although some enzymes are destroyed by freezing, some are still intact. note- typically, most all packaged frozen fruit isn’t raw (unless you check with the company and they tell you it is). you can dry fruit yourself as well in a dehydrator. (dried fruit at the store isn’t raw, again unless the company drying the fruit tells you it is)
