thoroughly confused - need to hear from long-time rawists

I will be 60 in a few weeks. I feel great. I garden organically & grow most of our food, ride, hike, do yoga-pilates, dance, keep active. My partner, though 5 yrs. younger, is not as healthy despite exercising and eating carefully. About 4 yrs. ago he had a persistent rash that a dermatologist, Dr. Gold of Nashville, TN, supposedly the best in the area, but a quack in my estimation, treated unsuccessfully with various creams and ointments and then with injections of antibiotics. Not long afterwards he was bleeding from his butt and suffering terribly from Crohn’s Disease. I did some research and found that a stubborn rash is a reason to consult a GI specialist, that antibiotics are the very worst thing for IBS. Asacol got it under control, but although the MD says he can eat “anything” when symptoms are not active, he is still careful. He never has consumed caffiene, white sugar, junk foods, but we were vegan for decades, incorporating quite a bit of tofu into our diet. Being told he needed high protein, low fiber really threw us into a dilemma. I have been reading various opinions on going raw. There is quite alot of conflict. Some “experts” say do not mix fruits and veggies. Some say do not mix nuts and fruits. Some say juicing allows the body to absorb nutrients more readily, some say blending is better. Yada yada yada. What I really need to know is how a raw diet works for older people. I’d like to hear from older (50+) people who have been raw for about 15-20 years, and from people whose IBS issues have been alleviated by going raw. You young sprouts who have been eating this way for 10 yrs. or less simply do not have a sufficient track record to convince me that I won’t get brittle bones and such or that my partner’s IBS won’t become worse.
