New to Going Raw - Have some questions about Nuts and Dried Fruit

Hi All,

I was recently admitted to hospital with appendicitis, since having my appendix removed I am trying to make healthier food choices and have decided to try ‘going raw’. Ideally I would like to detoxify my system and I am also hoping to shed a few extra pounds. This website is a great resource for a beginner so thought I would join as I have a few questions, I would really appreciate any comments, or help with the following.

Nuts, Seeds and Dried Fruit Whilst I am using these as good source of Fibre and Protein I am worried about the extremely high calorie count. The saturated fat is also quite high. Part of my reasons for going raw include shedding a couple of extra pounds, I was wondering about the impact these foods have when trying to loose weight whilst going raw.

I have concocted a mix that consists of Rasins, Oats, Wheat Flakes, Brazils, Cashews, Roasted Hazelnuts, Toasted coconut chips, Malted Wheat Flakes, Crispy Barley Flakes, Barley Flakes, Sultanas, Sunflower Seeds, Crispy Rice, chopped dates, Gojiberries, Dried Cranberries and Dried Blueberries – I then mix this with a spoonful of Honey. Will eating these foods make me put on weight?

Caffeine I still drink 2 to 3 cups of coffee a day, I know that for a proper detox you need to cut out all toxins but was wondering how much the caffeine will effect cleansing my system.

Also, how long does it take to notice the side effects of going raw, its been about a week, 2 weeks if you count not eating much due to appendectomy – I am expecting a change too soon?

Ekk, that’s lots of questions, thanks in advance for any comments and thanks again for a great site.
