Juicing

I just bought a juicer and wanted to know about citrus juicing. Do I cut up a orange and run it through or do I peel it first?

Anyone have favorite combinations they want to share? I’m especially interested in getting more greens in via juicing.

  • What make of juicer is it?

The one I have requires no cutting, others are different. I am lazy so suit putting whole fruit in the shoot just fine!

Apple, carrot and ginger are fabulous

Lots of others too! Try looking under the juice and smoothie section on recipes..they are fab!!

    Happy juicing :)

  • I have had a couple different models of juicers, and for oranges, the instructions have ALWAYS said that you need to remove the orange peel. It is o.k. to have the thin white part of the peel, but not the tough orange part as it can ruin the juicer. Did you buy the juicer new? If so, I would consult the manual. If you bought it used, you might be able to find a manual on-line for it.

  • Has anyone out there tried making their own Aloe Vera juice? I have a Champion juicer and that’s not the way to go. Does anyone have a Greenstar or similar, because I’m wondering if I need to use a different type of juicer to get results. I would love to hear your ideas.

  • I agree with spiritedmama, here’s the rule of thumb: Always remove the orange “coloring” from the peel of an orange AND yellow from the peel of a grapefruit (definitely keep the white pithy part to juice because it is loaded with nutrients), BUT you CAN juice a lemon or lime whole, without removing the coloring of their peel. A lot of people do not do this though unless they are organic. Also, you can juice the outside of watermelon (great source of chlorophyll), outside of a cantaloupe, and outside & core of pineapples (just not the top of bottom of the outside)...the juice will be much richer and thicker, and have many more nutrients :)

  • i have both a twin gear( i used to have a greenstar now have a marathon juicer ) and a champion i find that neither juicer is really good for oranges lemons and those kind of friuts. the best i found was a citrus press
