too much sugar?

Hi,

In the morning I have a fruit shake. About 4 bananas, 5 strawberries, raw hemp protein, water, and usually other various berries.

I have about 3 of these a day, sometimes 4.

Ever since I started adding the strawberries, my stomach has been upset. Did the strawberries put my sugar intake just over the edge?

Second. Does food combining really work? Cause that could be the cause. I also eat soe pecans before the shake and after my morning workout.

Thanks!

yes, Edgar CAyce used to highly recommend all berries … except strawberries, probably because they re acidic forming.

I don’t know if it has to do with sugar, but if you don’t feel good eating it, don’t eat it. :)

i do fine with berries. lots of them.

my guess is too much sugar/fat & not enough greens. greens greens and more greens. all different kinds. you also might just not want to eat that much “liquid.” chewing creates enzymes. i’d have the pecans after the smoothie, just cuz it’s a better idea to drink THEN eat.

it’s also a good idea to get a variety of foods, flavors, colors and textures in my book. 4 of the same green smoothies a day might not be so great for you.

    hope that helps

p.s. it might also be the pecans, which are rarely raw (if ever?)

  • this could be false of course, but the stuff i buy at whole foods says “organic raw pecans”. question mark

In the nut business, the label “raw” just means “not roasted”

  • ugh. ive been eating this for the past year or two haha!

Maybe it’s just the strawberries. Other berries are good for me, but I had to stop using strawberries in smoothies. No stomach upset, just the taste. Tasted wrong to me, made me wince.

But also I read somewhere awhile back that you shouldn’t eat nuts near the time when you eat fruit or vegetables, because nuts have something that can…deactivate (?) or inhibit the natural enzymes in the fruit or vegetables?

It’s been awhile. But my money is on the strawberries.

  • Well Im water fasting today, and I havent felt sick or bloated yet. Im gonna get rid of the strawberries for breakfast tomorrow, and stick to fruits and things around that time, and just eat the pecans later. we will see!

  • my moneys on the pecans…not necessarily ‘cause they aren’t raw (though this may also hinder), but because you ate them before the fruit…..nutsa are pretty complex to digest…they may require some hours….consider that most fruit is ready to leave the stomach in 1/2 an hour and you might see the problem

the stomach is one big mixing bowl…the fruit just becomes part of the nuts and vice versa….because it has to hang around for so much longer in the stomach , the fruit will start to ferment

also strawberries, being sub-acid (i’ll have to check) , aren’t a good mix with sweet fruit….also i don’t know the effects of the hemp protein on this already complex combination

as an experiment, cut out the berries for a while…the 5 strawberries can’t be doing too much except add a little colour and bit of flavour….just go for the bananas blended with water…..just in the morning…try this for a few days if you can…up the banana ante if you want more calories….this will help you decide if the issue is a sugar one

it’s definitely worth looking into food combining….you’ve been eating well for a while…you are bound to be more sensitive to certain combinations

  • You could be allergic to strawberries. It is actually a fairly common allergy or at least more common than one would think.

If you eat too many strawberries, you can get a strawberry rash. Same thing happens with buckwheat. It happens to almost everyone if you are eating too much. Most of the time this phenomenon happens in June to people that grow, when strawberries are overflowing and you need to get rid of them!

  • Food combining IS important, and it’s best to keep it simple, with as few mixed up ingredients as possible. Strawberries are acid forming – they don’t mix with starchy, sugary fruits like bananas. I’ve found that I react badly to strawberries, but am ok with other types, so yes, you could be sensitive to them. Fats and nuts are best with greens, not sugars/fruits. This only causes fermentation and blocks proper digestion. Nuts take hours to digest, fruits take only 1/2 an hour or less, so if you eat fats and then fruits, the fruit gets held up and putrefies while the nuts are being processed and digested, so this really isn’t the best idea. If you want a little fat and energy, use coconut oil in your smoothies instead. It will give you a buzz and keep you going but doesn’t have the same negative effects (food combining wise) as nuts and fruit eaten together. Also, why not try switching to some other smoothie combinations and fruits? Apples, pears, stone fruits etc. I think too many bananas could be a problem. They are a hybrid fruit and super high in sugar. They seem to cause bloating, gas, and general discomfort for many people.
