2nd time around

Hello there! I’m a 24 y/o who is just about to start her second foray into raw foods. My first experience with raw foods was in May of this year—I jumped in, adored it all, and stayed about 90-95% for 3 months. Unfortunately, a flurry of social engagements, rising food costs and general discouragement got me off track and I’ve spent two months as a hard-core SAD eater.

I’m currently on my 8th day of a cleanse to help my body rid myself of the horrid junk food I’ve been eating for almost 2 months…and will start raw foods again on Saturday.

I’m SO incredibly excited. All throughout my cleanse I’ve turned down pizza, tacos, brownies, ice cream, and other treats with barely a sigh of regret. But last night my roommate made raw “mock salmon pate” and I thought I would cave right then and there. It looked and smelled AMAZING. I love raw foods, I love the lifestyle, and I love how I feel when raw.

And honestly, I’m really starting to enjoy this forum. I’ve been to some forums that are so incredibly hard-core…and I felt like if I even mentioned my morning cup of coffee I’d be virtually stoned. I appreciate the variety of people and opinions here and look forward to delving into the community!

  • Hi rachellyn, Welcome back to raw! Yeah, I agree this is a great community- lots of forgiving people who all just want to encourage each other on this great choice to take better care of ourselves by eating raw. I’ve been unexepectedly in the US again (I live and work in Ethiopia) because of the death of a close relative, and due to all the family get togethers and grief in general, I’ve gotten way off raw. But I’m not beating myself up, just easing back in as best I can. I actually bought a blender the other day so I could make some green smoothies, and I don’t even live here. Just seemed worth it.

Anyway, your post was an encouragement to me, just to keep plugging on at whatever pace. It IS a great lifestyle and the benefits keep pulling us back! -osoniye

  • Hi rachellyn, Your post reminds me so much of me right now I can totally relate to giving raw foods a second chance. Last spring I went raw and did really great with it for a few months. Then I got very sick and was put on several antibiotics (doctor’s couldn’t figure out which ones I needed) I used that as an excuse to go back to SAD eating. I just finished my second master cleanse a week ago and am back to eating raw. Right now I’d say I’m about 75% raw and I want to be more raw. Your post is encouraging because it makes me feel like I’m not alone on this journey.
