emtpdmom~ That is great that you are in communication with waterbaby!
I saw the segment on Oprah that you mentioned. Just be aware that Oprah will probably tread lightly on the subject. The last time she mentioned swearing off beef, the beef industry took her to court. However, when she interviewed Kathy Freston, who advocates being “couscous of what one is eating” and other spiritual practices, Oprah embarked on a high raw (the point was it was ok to not be “perfectly raw”), vegan food plan for 21 days. Oprah had a professional chef that prepared meals for her and her staff that participated (lucky them!). In addition, Oprah blogged about her experience and said it did change her into thinking about her food’s source.
Oprah is very powerful in that she influences a lot of people. However, this power is a two-edged sword… hard to wield at times without getting deeply cut in the process. :)
The information about veggi/vegan/raw is getting out slowly in mainstream media. woohoo!
She has to be moderate on this subject. I saw her read the email as well and was rather impressed with her response there on the show. I’m not a huge fan on hers but she managed to get the point across that we need to stop animal cruelty but here in america we cannot dictate how everyone should eat. It’s a good point. If all animals were treated with less cruelty they would be far healthier to eat. She can’t promote a vegan diet long term or she’ll be blamed if she gets a large following and the meat markets take a hit financially.
