  • it wouldn’t let me include these, strange.

    Apple Pie

  • Ani Phyo’s mushroom gravy is outstanding!!

The whipped parsnips aren’t my favorite. I made the recipe you referred to, using organic farm fresh parsnips, and it tasted funny. Not horrible, but definitely strange. And I like parsnips, but not that recipe. Just an fyi!

  • Thank you for the advice. I hadn’t decided if I was going to make parsnips or cauliflower, but I have now!

  • Wow, what time is dinner? I am so there. Maybe you could package the leftovers and send them my way!

  • Sounds great. Tho a lot of work. Thanks for the news on parsnips. I “loved” them cooked but haven’t tried them raw. Guess it is time to start trying out some parsnip recipes. Any ideas? Is anyone having problems getting the Mock Turkey recipe? As I am, would there be an alternative?

  • I have also used celery root whip with cashews for mashed potatoes. I start by putting a few peppercorns, some coarse salt and 2 garlic cloves in the food processor. After I mince that I add some cubed celery root. When the machine wont move anymore on its own, I start pouring in cashew cream till it is smooth and the texture of mashed potatoes.

  • Wow that mock turkey loaf with cranberry sauce sounds good! I’d recommend adding Kal brand nutritional yeast if you allow for it. Kal has an awesome chicken with a hint of cheese flavor. It’s great for making mock chicken broth. Also be aware that the cauliflower mash potatoes taste very cauliflowery not potatoish. I think sweet potatoes cubed and dehydrated before processing would be a tastier sub but to each his own.

  • Oh I forgot to mention that the nut yeast in most bulk bins is Red Star which is delicious but is just cheesy tasting. It would make a fine sub but the chix flavor in Kal is so way awesome!

  • What time is dinner? I’ll do the dishes :)

  • I’m also having a problem opening the mock turkey recipe… the first one. can you repost the link?

  • The turkey recipe is here: http://www.fromsadtoraw.com/Recipes/MockTurkeyL… They also have tons of other recipes, some with pictures.

  • Ungrateful, I love cooking and using any and all utensils and machines that I have and i hate cleaning up, so come on down, Ruby, too. What I didn’t mention is that I am making all of this in advance and then taking it camping. We are going to have Thanksgiving camping and then eat leftovers all weekend! I love doing this kind of “work” I am excited to plan it, buy it and then make it. The eating is my least favorite part. I don’t mind eating it of course, it’s just not the fun part.

  • I made the Apple Crumble from this site over the weekend and my SAD friends loved it. Thought it was real apple crisp :) I didn’t make a whipped cream to go with it, but i’m sure it would be great with one. Just thought i’d let you know… it was good, but i’d cut the lemon juice back just a little bit.

  • Excellent, I bet it would be easier and travel better than an apple pie. And, then I would have one pie and one crumble. This is going to be great, I am excited.

  • Is the one you made called “Yummy apple Cobbler”?

  • Daniefon – i’ll have to check and get back to you. It might be. It uses crubled pacans as the topping. I forgot that i had the raisins soaking for the actual pie… i accidentally left those out. Instead, i used them in the crumble part. Turned out really well :) I don’t know if the raisins in the mix actually makes a difference with the lemon flavor, but it still tasted good without the raisins included :) I’ll check on it and let you know for sure!

Have you made the Turkey roll (stuff with spinach) on this site yet??? It looks great and i really want to impress my in-laws and other family members. I’m making a pecan pie, apple crumble and stuffing. I’d like to make another side dish or a main dish as well… but, i don’t want to over do it!

Yep, this is the one that i used. Again, less lemon :) It was very good. I did like adding the raisins to the topping, so you might want to try that as well. Just a suggestion :)

  • I love the Yummy Apple Cobbler recipe as well and it was a sure hit last year at Thanksgiving. It’s truly delicious and SAD eaters won’t really notice it’s raw food.

Hi Carrie6292 – did you get that pumpkin cheesecake recipe I sent you? Just curious what you thought of it. I’m bringing that one down for Thanksgiving as it’s my favorite

  • The best raw mashed potato recipe I’ve found can be found in Matthew Kenney’s Everyday Raw. It involves Jicama, cashews and a few other ingredients.

I think it tastes much better than the alternatives! Here’s his recipe:

4 cups peeled and chopped jicama, 2 cups soaked cashews, 1 tsp salt, 1-2 tsp fresh rosemary, 1 tsp garlic, 2 tsp nutritional yeast, black pepper

process jicama in fp til rice like. press out excess liquid through a sieve or cheesecloth. put all ingredients in blender and blend until well combined.

This is really tasty with olive oil and extra black pepper, or with a mushroom gravy.

  • Joyce – Yes, i’m sorry, but email and internet connection have been acting crazy! I did receive it. I’ll try to send you that other recipe tomorrow. Thanks for sending it! It sounds delicious!!! I’m thinking of using Pine nuts instead of cashews – just really don’t like to use cashews. I wonder if i can quarter the recipe and try it out before hand. hmmm…

  • Try Apple Cranberry Sauce it looks and tastes like the cooked version but much better of course! 1/4 water, apples, cranberry (sundried works best rather than fresh), some agave, blend and wow so super yummy raw energy!

  • I can never find jicama organic! It does not exist in CA maybe other places…a simple mashed potato recipe is cauliflower, pine nuts, miso, olive oil, 1/4 water, it comes out super creamy and fluffy, I used Macadamia Nuts recently and it was even better!

  • cranberries are in season right now and we are getting fresh organic ones in bulk from Massachusetts. I’ve been taking about 1-2 cups of cranberries, one ripe orange, a couple dates and a bit of maple syrup and throwing everything in the food processor for a bit. This makes a lovely snack or breakfast. I was thinking of tweaking it a bit and processing it a bit more for a thanksgiving cranberry sauce.

I can’t find organic jicama either but can get it in the local Thai shop if need be. rawbryan: thanks for posting your ‘mashed potato’ recipe. I haven’t been successful with traditional mashed potato yet :-)

Hi Carrie – no worries about emailing as I was just curious if you liked the cheezecake recipe. I look forward to the cheese recipe whenever you get a chance

  • I made a great thanksgiving turkey once. I used a cantelope for the body; skewers w/ colorful fruits and veggies for feathers, and my son colored a picture of a turkey head that we put in w/ a tooth pick. It was really cute. It was a few years ago…I should have taken a photo.
