3 months raw --> no desire to exercise

Hi. I have been 75 - 80% raw for about 3 months. Before that I was on a SAD vegan diet for 6 months and i frequented the gym on a regular basis (5 times/week). Before that I was a SAD vegetarian and also frequented the gym 4 to 5 times a week. Now that I've been raw, I get home from work and just want to stay there. I don't know if it's because it's winter and gets dark so early or if it's the food I'm eating or what. I have always, always, always been very disciplined about going to the gym, but now I just want to stay home and watch a movie (and prepare my lunch for the next day, etc)

What's going on? Anyone else experience this?

(I do yoga every morning, though. 20 - 60 minutes depending on when I get myself out of bed)

  • If you have only been raw for 3 months you are still detoxing. I recommend letting your body even out. Also, I feel much better and have more strength for things like exercising when I eat mainly greens. That means 2-3 of the 4 or 5 "meals" I eat a day are primarily greens.

I went through a stage like you are mentioning as well. Again, let your body even out, and it would probably help to rebuild yourself by adding more greens (especially through green juices or energy soup- minus the avocado in my case).

  • awesome! Thanks. Yea, I haven't gotten a juicer, yet, so I've just been doing green smoothies and big salads for lunch and dinner. I think once I get a juicer and start making green juices and wheat grass, I'll start feeling better. Thanks for your input!

  • It could definitely be some detoxing if you're feeling lethargic. Or, not. If you're not feeling particularly lethargic, it could just be a little "lazy" bug. After all, it is a busy time of year and it's winter, so like you wrote, sometimes you just want to chill and relax. I agree that the winter can make you want to just curl up on a couch with a nice blanket and book or movie :)

Here are some questions to ask yourself:

    Are you getting enough calories?

    How are you sleeping?

How do you feel during the day?

If you're up to doing yoga in the morning, maybe that would be a good time to try visiting the gym (I work out much better when it's first thing in the morning). Sometimes it's simply a matter of getting your momentum going. Once you hit the gym 4-5 times (that's usually all it takes), the momentum takes over and it's like magic. Or, maybe you need inspiration: put on your favorite workout tunes or flip through a fitness magazine. Those are things that help me :)

  • I have definitely gone through this on raw. For me it is clearly associated with protein. Do you ever do highly concentrated green powder?? David wolfe also has a new protein powder on his site

Or just dive in to some almonds for aday or two and see what happens
