recepies that call for 'soaked then dehydrated nuts'

Can someone explain this process? What is the benefit of soaking your nuts and then dehydrating them vs. using regular raw nuts? Is there a minimum amount of time to soak the nuts to have them considered to sprout, from what I understand it is difficult to glean when a nut has sprouted and many recipes don't call for 'sprouted nuts,' just soaked. I am confused with the whole soaking/sprouting then dehydrating business....
