Hm. Maybe it's the seeds. They could be harboring some sort of fungus. I would try again with a different batch.

I've had some success now by using a small number of seeds in the sprouter and reducing the amount of watering. After the first couple of days, the slime starts to appear and then I just sprinkle a bit of water over the sprouter and a swill it around rather than letting it drain through. They grow quite slowly compared to most seeds that I've sprouted, but are worth the wait!
