Will a cooked seed sprout?

I buy a lot of Buckwheat and Wheat Berry and sprout them and always wonder if they are really raw. They always sprout. Does this mean that they are indeed raw? If they have been cooked would they still sprout?
Thnak you,

I think that if they sprout, it means they are living… so if they were cooked, they weren’t cooked at a high enough temperature or long enough to kill them.
    I’d say it was raw..

that’s how I check if a nut or seed is raw, see if it will sprout. If it is damaged in any way it won’t.

  • This raises an interesting question. Raw almonds after September 2007 were to be lightly steamed by the processors due to new government requirements. Will the raw almonds sprout? I imagine if they are only very lightly cooked, that they still might be viable.
