Sweet, I wish I had a Whole Foods closer to where I live…but it’s like an hour or something away :/
tunacupcakes, the angels must have heard you ;) you got a solution!!
Ah you are so lucky! The closest one to me is about 1 1/2 hours away!
Congratulations. The coolest store I ever went to was a Whole Foods. One of our members calls it Whole Paycheck. LOL. You will understand what that means when you shop there.
At least there you will have a selection of organics, Here, we have a store called Earthfare. I used to shop there but their business practces are so sleazy I refuse to give them my money. There are a few occasions where I will go to a Walmart, under no circumstances will I give my money to Earthfare. I just keep hoping Whole Foods will come to SC but I am not sure we have the numbers to support them.
:D. I’m glad to hear that whole foods is something cool. I couldn’t remember what I heard..I just saw the store and was like “whole foods?? that’s a good thing..I think”. :) I will probably search the forum and see what I can see.
Dain why is it called Whole Paycheck? I go there occasionally and don’t know what that means.
cool thing about wholefoods for your budget: free juice pulp. do you have a dehydrator?
Because your “whole paycheck” is what you spend on one grocery trip.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Renoir, you crack me up! :) Sadly so true…it sure is eye-candy to go in there and they do have some FANTASTIC organic greens for smoothies!
I have two Whole Food Markets about ten minutes from my place, and another one 30 minutes away. I’m just lucky I guess.
Yep, Whole Paycheck. You guys haven’t heard that one before?
I honestly can’t go to Whole Foods without spending under 70$. It is almost impossible. They have gotten pretty expensive. I miss the little local co-op where I could get everything for around 30$ and it was all organic. Whole Foods is definatley slacking on the organic side of things. The conventional stuff cost just as much as the organic – boo!
I remember when Whole Foods was like a little hippie kinda market – now it is all like gourmet this and gourmet that and the prices have sky rocketed.
OH LOL I GET IT!!!! Seriously, that was a funny one! :)
Ok so family of 5 plus Whole Foods = $350 a week!!!!!!!! The bad/good thing is they have all those delicious cheeses out for sampling! This raw girl had the hardest time getting rid of cheese and the chipotle chocolate almonds!!!! Thankfully now—I can just walk on knowing I can make the BEST raw chocolate goji spirulina balls to die for. Maybe i’ll add a little ceyenne to thoseoooh! Random thoughts.
yes be careful at whole food because they put the conventional stuff out front and then hide the organic stuff. luckily, they have selection so like if most of the apples are $2.99 a pound at least I found the braeburn for $1.99.
whole foods is notorious for throwing out perfectly good fruit that is just slightly bruised. get a friend who works there. or work there yourself! or check out their dumpsters. :-)
bitt—i wish! i once asked an employee what they did with their “bad” produce and he said “we give it away… we are even allowed to buy it!” doesn’t that suck? i’m curious about their dumpster though… hmmm. =)
some places give to organizations like food not bombs (vegan food for free—intended for those with less $$ or homeless). when I worked with food not bombs they were not getting much from whole foods. I have my suspicions about what happens but employees i have know from whole foods swore that they got TONS of stuff free (I have benefited from this) and also that TONS of fruit was being tossed away. but maybe they have cleaned up their act since then (this was before the merger). also the CEO is vegan. pretty cool.
I may be interviewing for a position at Whole Foods this week!
I hope I get some good deals on produce.
Cool! I love WF! Several of them even have raw sections in their deli departments now!
Blessings,
Audrey
Whole Foods is rediculous and I think they are a serious financial turn off to anyone trying to go organic and raw. Sure they have most of what you are looking for but give me a break. With all the food I eat, that place would make me broke. I enjoy going to my local organic store and produce market and supermarket which has its own organic line. Shame on Whole Foods!
i think places like this are good for specialty items and bulk food, but forget about buying produce there!
stylistchick, I would have to agree with you on the specialty items and even then…ouch!
Well…this is all very interesting. :) I haven’t been there yet, but it seems that it may be good for special items. I do have a dehydrator, Pianissima, kind of a yucky round one. what’s this about free juice pulp??
I have a Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Natural Groceries, and Wild Oats in a 15 minute drive from me.. Northeast Albuquerque treats me well!
That’s cool! I also have a Trader Joes about 10 min away. then there’s his store called New Seasons that I love. Is the health eating movement big in Albuquerque??
i was JUST about to ask pianissima the exact same thing! free pulp?? i’mgoing to call one very soon about that! you all have the same stores we do in the phoenix area…do you all have sprouts, too?
