steel cut vs. rolled oats

Sorry if this topic has been covered, but I can’t seem to find groats locally but can find the steel cut and of course rolled varieties. Is steel cut better than rolled? I was assuming it is less processed than rolled, but not quite sure.

steel cut is much better than oats..its the form before oats…i love the nutty and crunchy taste!

  • Steel cut oats are cut with steel blades. Rolled oats are rolled, but they are usually steamed before being rolled. Steel cuts oats are not steamed.

so steel cut are raw for sure?

  • This topic:

Are oats raw? on Gone Raw

suggests that ALL oats are not raw, unless explicitly stated otherwise.

  • If it doesn’t say Raw you could always sprout test them. The oats that we carry in our Canadian online shop are Raw and will sprout.

Well, you won’t be able to sprout steel cut oats… but I think you probably already knew that.

  • If you live in the UK, you can buy really raw oats (not steamed) here: (no affiliation)
