They’re well versed in Americanism in the UK – actually they’re experts! They watch Sex and the City too! Americans are generally well loved there and rarely are there misunderstandings. The differences are kind of funny conversation pieces.
The French can find our way of being casual or familiar a little rude – they’re used to more formal courtesy. Make sure you ALWAYS address a strange woman as Madame/mademoiselle and man as monsieur. Contrary to popular myth, I found that the French actually like us Americans better than our UK cousins…maybe some of you might disagree! I lived in France one year and rarely if ever came across anti-Americanism. Of course that was 10 years ago!
Just be open-minded. I would suggest you take a little initiative in France cuz if you wait for them you might go the whole day without speaking to anyone!
