I found this on the Internet the other day. I can’t eat it because of the tomatoes, but the recipe may be exactly what you’ve been looking for. It is by Russell James, The Raw Chef.

Hi minib and 123. I am in the same boat. I made flax crackers but they aren’t appealing to my boyfriend. I looked at the recipe above and it looks awesome! Thank you so much for sharing that. That will be my project for tomorrow! Here is a cracker recipe I am going to try too. Good luck!
EVERYBODY
ALL of Russell James’ food looks good! He definitely has the gourmet flair. I think many things would taste better if they looked as good too. I want to make this bread with a slight variation, no tomatoes. What would be a good substitute? The sandwich he made looks wonderful. I want to try the “bacon” recipe on this site to make a B.L.A.S. (avocado, sprouts). If I could eat tomatoes, it would be a BLAST!
HI- I’d like to try to get away from tomato too. I think pineapple might work and be tasty, even eggplant might be great. Spinach or basil and garlic? Let me know what you try!
Oh wow, that bread does look good!! I’m going to try at as soon as I get the dehydrator set up again. Thanks so much for posting it!
Just out of curiosity, why are you both trying to avoid tomatoes? I remember my mom once went through a phase, when I was in high school, of trying to avoid all nightshades… I don’t remember why, though. I don’t know if I could do without tomatoes, spinach, and eggplant! :o) I haven’t tried the recipe yet, but I wonder if you could sub something salty and sweet(like a tomato is)... maybe like a combo of celery and red pepper?
May I suggest cucumber as a replacment for the tomatoes on a BLAS sandwiches. I find they are good on sandwiches because they are crunchy and also juicy. Put a little salt on them to make more of a “sweet and salty” thing. The “bacon” itself tends to be on the salty side because of the Nama Shoyu in the recipe so you may not need any extra salt on the cukes. But I love the extra salt myself.
Writeeternity – thanks for the Bouentko recipe. I have noticed in the past when I used sunflower seeds in a chip recipe – it really overpowered it. I would probably use less sunflower seeds but the red onion is so good in chips. I always use it.
Minibeast, I love your new cracker recipe. I am a cracker/chip fiend myself – always trying to make better crackers. The broccoli is what must make it really crunchy. What to do the rest of the broccoli as I don’t like raw broccoli (only because I can taste in my mouth for so long after!)?
I’ll definately try your recipe soon. (Your kitty is super cute too!)
I was found to be sensitve to tomatoes on an ELISA food allergy test. They tend to cause me to feel weak when I eat them, sometimes it’s a delayed reaction. I might be beyond that now, but why chance it?
I tried the Russel James recipe once, and personally I didn’t like it much, but I seem not to like dehydrated food much in general. My boyfriend lovet it though.
I just tried the Sun Dried Tomato Bread recipe and it turned out amazing !
Queenfluff, I don’t like raw broccoli much eighter, but a good tips is to put it in your food processor and grind it up to tiny pieces. Then you get the nutrition without the taste ;-) (I sometimes make salads where I put all the ingredients in the food processor. That way you get a totally different flavor). Also, you can rub some tiny pieces of broccoli with coconut oil and curry, and leave it for an hour or two to set, preferebly in a warm place so that the oil will get runny (if it isn’t already).
What kind of sandwich did you make Kandace? I’m eager to try this, but I’m detached from my dehydrator right now!
123, I made a sandwich with the tomato bread, humos, lettuce, olive, tomato and avocado. I’d love to add sprouts, but am all out presently. It was delicious! And, the tomato bread is much easier (and quicker to make) than onion bread, which has been a staple in our house for a while!
There are some good raw mayonnaise recipes on the Internet too. Cherie Soria has mustard, mayonnaise and ketchup on her site. I made some mustard once using ground seeds and ACV with a little water. It wasn’t as good as Eden brand stone ground mustard, and not even raw apparently. The condiments are where I mess up. I’ve always liked a lot of sauce/gravy. It’s a southern thing maybe. Your sandwich sounds great Kandace.
