If you can’t find raw tahini you can just grind up sesame seeds in a coffee grinder and add a little oil to make a paste.
I forget the brand I used to get….MARANANTHA? does that sound right? they make PB and tahini…though you may have to hold off abit w/ finding it on the shelves- they just had a recall…..really helped me kick my raw tahini habit :-D divine right timing, though I was grumpy about it! peace Heather
Are there any other brands aside from MARANANTHA that sell raw tahini?
Whole Foods often carries raw tahini in the bulk bins, but it kind of depends on how large a store your local store is (larger ones in raw-friendly areas are more likely to have it). Though it’s very affordable that way, my experience with the bulk raw tahini has not been good. I’ve tried it three times, and each time it has gone rancid almost immediately (the first time it may well have been rancid when I bought it). This isn’t terribly surprising, as raw sesame goes rancid easily and the bulk bins are not refrigerated, but it is frustrating.
Like rawmumma suggested, I now just make my own (which is also very inexpensive). But if you don’t have a coffee grinder, maybe the bulk ones are worth a try? I think you can ask them to give you a sample before you dish it up. Definitely refrigerate it as soon as you get home, though.
Living Tree Community has the most delicious Raw tahini. They sell it at both Whole Foods and Wild Oats. They also have, by far, the best Raw olive oil. http://livingtreecommunity.com/
