Sprouting rice : troubleshooting or not? Any expert rice sprouters?

CarnapCarnap Raw Newbie

I let my rice soak for 24 hours, changing the water once. It smelled like cooked rice, almost. I saw the germ bulging underneath. I wanted to see the germ poke out, so I rinced and left for twelve hours (I admit, I slept waaaay too long).

It had a different smell, grainy. Like chickpea sprouts can smell. And some of it turned dark brown, around where the sprout was shooting out.

Are they rotten?

I have them dehydrating to make flour.

  • If they don't smell rotten ,they are probably ok. I prefer wild rice as it swells and can be eaten within a day or two.

well, it smelled slightly unpleasant, but not putrid.

i'm having a hard time judging the smell of "rotten" other than rotten garbage...
