It would be difficult to get agreement on these questions, even on a raw food website. My personal advice is to transition at the pace that feels good and right to you. If you were vegetarian, try going vegan, while adding raw foods to your diet. Try a green smoothie in the morning, and raw snacks (nuts/seeds, fruits, raisins). Have a hot drink if you want one. Try not to fixate on weight loss until you get into a groove and it's less effort to feed yourself.
Plant-based foods are full of nutrients. I usually wonder how people who don't eat fruits and vegetables get enough nutrients.
I think you're doing great!
It's awesome that you dove right in to 100%. If that works for you - and it does for many people - don't let anybody talk you out of it or tell you to transition more slowly.
If you want something hot to drink why not have some herbal tea?
I would say at this point, don't limit yourself in any way - eat what you want, when you want, so long as it's raw.
You'll lose weight if you need to.
I promise you are getting way more nutrition on an unrestricted raw diet than you were on cooked, so I wouldn't worry about that.
If you have any doubt, plug your daily intake into a site like fitday.com and see how you're doing nutritionally. You should probably also plug in a typical non-raw day just for comparison's sake, too. ;-)
I didn't delve into 100% until a week ago. A sure focus for me is weight loss. I've limited my avacado to 1 a day, and no more than 1/2 cup of nuts a day--those are really easy for me to gobble away without realizing my intake! But that's just my personal restrictions.
Actually, I just focus on FEELING good! And I've noticed fruits and nuts don't give me the same energy as greens!! I LOVE my green vegetables! I really become happy, perky, and energetic after I eat or drink greens! I've finally come to the point where I can stuff my face all day with raw food--and I'm still losing weight! I've lost 11 pounds total--and I've been slowwwly transitioning to raw this month. I'm very pleased.
Definitely don't worry about losing weight, because it will come. I thought mine would be much slower, but it's a steady, healthy, and exciting weight loss! My hubby is impressed. ;-)
Thank you all
Unfortunately I succumbed to the temptation of having a piece of bread in a few days. I love greens and fruits; however, I can hardly have access to avocado in my home town.
I do believe that feeling happy is prior to being obsessed by losing weight. Thank you chattanoog for reminding me.
I have lost about 12-15 pounds in less than a month (230 to 215) being raw without even looking at calories, eating fresh guacamole like it was going out of style. I definitely think you will have an initial weight loss right away when you go raw, and then once you hit a weight loss wall you will need to add cardio or cut out or cut down on some high calorie foods to take the weight loss to the next level.
Don't feel guilty about having a piece of bread, doesn't make you a bad person! I think guilt is the top thing that can kill your progress. Don't be hard on yourself.... if you have a piece of bread, no big deal... pick up from there.
