What can I do with a sugar pumpkin?

I just bought a little sugar pumpkin. Any suggestions on what I can make with it?

  • Hello!

Well, I dont know what's the difference with a pumpkin and a sugar pumpkin.. buttttt I have a pumpkin now and I made a pumpkin pie today, I'll eat it later and tell you if its good, but it smells just soooooo delicious!! :P

  • Yes please tell me how that goes! And maybe the recipe as well if you like the way it turns out? I'm not sure the difference either, it looks like a normal pumpkin just smaller. I think its the normal kind actually the sticker just says sugar pumpkin- got it at trader joes.

Hiya, I bought a dinky culinary pumpkin (as opposed to the bigger carving ones) the other day and I'm planning on making a couple of things this weekend.

I've picked out these two recipes which I thought looked nice:

    Pumpkin Bread (http://goneraw.com/node/4237)

Pumpkin Pecan Cinnamon Cranberry Spelt Tea Cakes (http://goneraw.com/node/16340)

There are also loads of pumpkin pie recipes on this site too.

  • I just watched this video from Kevin Gianni/Renegade Health show: Looks interesting!

I make a mock salmon pate with walnut and pumpkin (also works with butternut squash). It's on this site.

  • well, I made an interesting recipe for 'pumpkin pie bars', sort of by default. I watched the clip I mention above, but they don't mention the measurements of the ingredients. plus, I improvised and added some other ingredients, such as brazil nuts, mesquite powder etc. Due to so much processing, and my revision of the recipe, the bar mixture came out quite smooth, and you would never know the base was pumpkin. You can check out my recipe here: http://barefootandfrolicking.blogspot.com/2009/10/raw-kitchen-humility.html

It is quite sweet, so next time I would reduce the amount of maple syrup, and not add the icing (explained in the post). I am impressed with how versatile pumpkin is in raw recipes!

Hi Dawntreader, thanks for the link to your recipe, I like your blog too.

I was also quite surprised at how versatile pumpkin is and was expecting it to be much harder/tougher than it was.

My two recipe attempts turned out great and I've been enjoying the bread and tea cakes this week.

  • All of those recipes sound great! I'd like to try them all if I can find the time. Thanks guys!
