From what I know your supposed to drink a shot a day, so several+not being used to it could very well mean a bad stomach, with new stuff always start slow.
This is a fairly typical response to wheatgrass. And it can vary from time to time. I can drink about 2 ounces on an emply stomach but I add a bit of water and ginger to cut it.
I would start with an ounce and then put some other juice or water into your stomach with it at first.
I just read in a book why wheatgrass upsets your stomach if you are not used to it. I'll go back and find the info for ya. Check back tomorrow! I have heard this many times though about wheatgrass...
Sometimes mold grows on wheatgrass and that can make you sick if you get juice with the mold in it... I recently found a frozen organic wheatgrass from Canada at the market that really good tasting. The company claims that all the nutrients are still there (studies show that freezing most foods has minimal nutrient loss) and they are very eco-friendly. It's not cheap but a good alternative!
This may be a profoundly stupid question, but it never hurts to ask!
I've read about the many benefits, but I've been really nervous to try wheatgrass because I'm gluten intolerant and allergic to grass. I really doubt there's any gluten in this part of the plant, but I'm more concerned about the leaves themselves. Does anyone else have experience with a severe grass/wheat allergy and wheat grass?
Ive heard that that can happen with wheatgrass too if you drink too much when youre not used to it. Its so alkaline that you rapidly detox. More than 1 oz is considered a therapeutic dose and you should work your way up to these
camiheartsraw, I'm celiac and though I'm not allergic to grasses, I've found no troubles with wheatgrass -- aside from the occasional nausea that this post originally mentions...I wonder if it's because of the greens that I felt nauseous? it was the same feeling as when I used to take my iron pills on an empty stomach
