  • Thanks for the advice…I’ll put the real toast and strawberry romanoff on my list of recipes to try out!
  • When I first started eating raw, I also went through a 2 week detox plan. Most of the symptoms were flu-like and went away within a few days (slight headache and body ache). Right now, I am not completely raw – probably a lot like you. However, I st…
  • Thanks for the info, everyone. I was wondering if dehydrating would heat out the bad stuff in potatoes, but the wikipedia article cited suggests that even boiling isn’t enough – potatoes need to be baked (higher than 170
  • I’ve heard this about kale as well, but usually when talking about harvesting. Here’s a fuller explanation: Frost enhances the flavor. Some of the tastiest kale is harvested under a foot of snow! Never harvest kale until after a hard frost or two. A…

  • Hi Cheyne, Welcome to Gone Raw. You are on a really great path! You’ll like find that, the more recipes you try and have in mind as possibilities, the easier it gets to eat raw without thinking of it so much.

  • I hadn’t heard any of this about Braggs previously, but the theories brought up are pretty disturbing. It doesn’t seem quite right that an unhealthy production process can be shielded from the public as a trade secret. I was really happy with Braggs…
  • Recipe #2 from Rhio is up now: Spinach Caesar Salad. Before adding Rhio’s recipes, we’re making, tasting and photographing them so we can give our thoughts on the process, taste, etc. Is there a recipe on the site that you’d like to see us add to Go…
  • We’ve just posted our first recipe by Rhio. It is the herb-encrusted mushroom steak recipe. I really enjoyed making this one and the presentation is quite striking – it looks like something I would order in a gourmet restaurant. And, it only took a …
  • Definitely, I’ll post as I know of classes. There are a couple coming up. March 24th is Cheese and Crackers and March 31 is Bread and Breakfast. The classes are $45 each, 11 am to 1:30 pm. The dates may change by a week or so, so be sure to check in…
  • Ray and I just signed up for the last of these raw food courses – Thai Food Extravaganza on February 17th. If any of you are in the area and make it to the class, be sure to say hello!
  • This week’s menu: Shitake-Mango Maki Sushi Supreme Teriyaki Nori Wraps Deluxe Simply Stupendous Marinated Asian-Fusion Salad Sesame-Orange Miso Dipping Super-Sauce and Live-Food Faux Pho! plus an extra bonus dish sure to drive you into a feeding fr…
  • Hmmm…I’ll keep my eye out for smoothies with carob! I wonder if something with banana and coconut water might be a good start. In the meantime, there is a fudge recipe up that uses raw carob powder.

  • I often start the day with a green drink (kale, parsley, pear, banana or something similar). Lunch is a combo raw sandwich, soup and/or salad. Dinner a salad and a glass of red wine. Tea throughout the day. Sometimes, a hot vegan meal or dinner out …

  • Perhaps start with a goal of one raw meal a day and do that for a while. Then, make it 2 meals. Then, 2 meals and your snacks and so on. This might not work for everyone, but it has really helped me and kept off the stress of the “all or nothing” mi…

  • Hi Toni, Welcome to Gone Raw! Say, where do you go for organic fruits and vegetables in your area? I have family in Salem who was just asking for recommendations and you sound much closer to Salem than I am here in Portland!

  • I’ve really been enjoying discovering all of these new raw websites (like the GLiving site – aren’t those recipe photos gorgeous). I also enjoy checking out the new recipes The Raw Chef.
  • Some links to informational raw websites would help others new to eating raw. The links page is a great idea! Any favorite sites you’d like to see listed? We’re also planning to make a FAQ page that has some helpful general information for beginners…
  • I agree – I enjoy a glass of red wine in the evening. I asked a local wine seller about organic and non-organic wine. His opinion was that most good wines are organic (or fairly close). He said that, because pesticides ruin the taste of the grapes, …

  • “because it makes me feel good.” Perfect! I believe I’ll follow this excellent example. No more 5 minute why I’m eating raw speeches from me. And, I do believe that friends/family interested in more information will ask more questions.
  • I’ll have to try the Trilogy – I’ve seen it before but haven’t grabbed it yet. I’ve had the green drink a few times and felt really good that I was drinking so many greens (and it was pretty good, too). Then, I discovered green smoothies…

  • I have the 5 tray Excalibur as well (I bought mine straight from Excalibur, not sure if that is a discount from Amazon or not at $210). It works perfectly for two of us. I’d recommend the one with the timer – boy does that save me sometimes!
  • Yeah, I’ve been going back and forth between juicing and drinking green smoothies. I like the variety and there are likely benefits in each. What do you do with the fiber that is left after juicing? Is there something that can be made and eaten from…
  • Thanks for the link – I haven’t been tracking what I’ve been eating, but am going to try using fitday for this week.
