  • Renoir, believe me, I understand your frustration. My father ultimately died from a very unhealthy lifestyle, and my mother is dying of one very, very slowly (she is also a truly toxic individual). If you love your family, you have to make peace wit…

  • I have found I don’t even enjoy getting raw takeaway anymore. I recently got raw mock sushi at Bonobo’s here in NYC and felt like crap for the rest of the day. At this point, I only feel really good on fresh fruits, veg, and nuts/seeds (again, in mo…
  • Generally, B vitamin supplements contain B-12, but you absolutely must look at the label, as this sometimes isn’t the case. Mega foods has a raw B complex supplement that is vegan and made from food. If you take B vitamins, I highly recommend it.

  • Sarm, I often add mesquite to smoothies. It has a very earthy yet slightly sweet taste that’s very intriguing. I know there are also tons of recipes on this site that include mesquite as an ingredient.

  • That’s great, Achin70. Nice and easy!

  • Thanks, everyone, for all the great links and info. This is such a great group! I’ve been 90-95% raw since September, which has gotten rid of IBS and period pain. I think the reflux is in response to some very real stressors in my life that have occ…

  • I eat a lot of fruit and greens and do very well with both. I’ve never had a problem with bloodsugar, and diabetes runs in my family. Honestly, I also don’t have a problem with nuts, though I make sure not to over-do it. When I see recipes calling f…
  • LibbyB, try Cuisinart. It has a combo blender and food processor. I have never had a problem with mine, and although it’s not a Vitamix, it really does the trick. I paid about $80. Not too bad.
  • You go, worley! I’m sure your mom and girlfriend really appreciate it—what a lovely thing to do.
  • justbeautiful, I just can’t go along with that. Look at how many chefs are men? Also, my husband loves to cook (albeit non vegetarian) and is very good at it. I think you either have the “cooking gene” or you don’t.
  • It’s love-hate for me, achin70. I never liked to prepare food prior to going raw, and must say that it’s definitely improved since going raw. Still, when I see an intricate recipe, I just run away. I have to stick with what’s simple in order to be m…
  • I love almost all fruits and veg, but oh my God, I tasted durian the other day and it was nauseating. Never again!
  • I was googling “raw foods” when first considering going raw and found the site. I’ve been hooked ever since. This community has been amazingly informative and supportive during the raw journey. Thanks Kandace and Ray and everyone else.
  • Another one bites the dust. I have their “raw” tahini in the fridge right now.
  • Well ladies, I for one am off to have the full leg wax today. I used to shave (so much cheaper), but got really tired of doing it every couple of days. Just another thing to do in the morning routine. I wish I didn’t care about leg and underarm hair…
  • Chakra essence, I really understand how you feel about doctors, but you really, really MUST go SOON. You have some very distressing symptoms that need to be investigated. It’s important to know what is going on. Don’t let them intimidate you—ask a l…
  • Mandelicious, I did a search and found that carrot top greens are mildly toxic, especially to those who are sensitive (whatever that means). Here’s a link: www.ohsu.edu/poison/documents/mildlyToxicPlants… Hmmm…what to do? Seems like renoir and newbi…

  • Thanks, renoir. I guess I’ll chop them up fairly well before throwing them into the blender. I don’t have a Vitamix, just a plain ‘ol cuisinart.

  • Thanks, newbie. I don’t have a juicer, but I’ll definitely use them in green smoothies (in small quantities). I love buying carrots and beets—you get 2 veggies for the price of 1 (even tho’ greens are not technically veggies).

  • Thanks, Joyce. I have to say, you’ve really peaked my interest. There’s a studio a few blocks away, so I can definitely try it. Thanks for the links!

  • I love running, but stopped after being diagnosed with a torn meniscus 2.5 years ago. After that, I stuck with the elliptical machines at the gym and vinyasa yoga. The other day, I included a little running after being on the ellipticals at the gym …

  • Jenny, thank you. That is very good to know. Luckily, I haven’t had a problem with the produce, but you never know. BTW, have you spoken with them as to why their produce is always rotten? It’s got to be frustrating to buy stuff and frequently have …
  • They really are. When they’re soaked, they’re even more flavorful. If you live near TJs, I highly recommend ‘em (not salted or roasted, however!).
  • No more receipt, RawKidChef. It’s really o.k. I learned my lesson! I’ll just give ‘em to my non raw hubby. BTW, the actual raw Valencia almonds at TJs really are good. You can really tell the difference between the raw and the pasteurized.
  • Thanks, guys. Figured it was a lost cause. Why didn’t I return them? Too LAZY! Didn’t feel like going back to TJs and dealing with the crowds. Ah well; no more “grabbing” items off the shelves.
  • Yes, pianissima, the jarred ones are preferable. We used to get them at Costco and I would stock up. I was proud of myself the last time we went—walked past ‘em and didn’t put them in the cart. Though now that we’re talking about it again, I really …

  • Oh boy, do I love hearts of palm. I used to eat them by the jarful before going raw. I don’t think it’s possible to eat them without cooking them, though. I miss ‘em!
