  • bitt: I was at the very end of the table, on the exit side. I was a little late, so I’ll see you next month, hopefully. :)
  • Thanks for the link. We were passing the article around this past weekend at our monthly Seattle meetup at Chaco Canyon. :)
  • Green smoothies are a great way to get started. Just combine fruit with greens, along with your favorites add-ons.
  • See www.thenaughtyvegan.com for great instructions on how to open a young coconut (it’s a 2 pager), as well instructions on how to open a mature coconut (2 pages as well). :)

  • I bought a frozen one, and the split never developed. After a week, it turned moldy. So the split doesn’t develop sometimes. :)
  • Yes, they’re a fruit, since they have a seed. www.livingtreecommunity.com has them as well. They’re rolled in sea salt and olive oil, though, and the olive oil and salt are not raw. Don’t know how extreme you want to be here about this. LOL. :)
  • I’ve read that you try not to go over about 5 oz (about 1 1/4 cup) of nuts and seeds per day. Try to emphasize seeds if you can, since it’s a lighter food, has more fiber in general, has more of the omega 3’s and 6’s, and is slightly less acidic. Ke…
  • Here’s one of my savory faves: Fennel, celery, parsley, tomatoes, 1/2 lime (skinned, but not juiced). Add a clove of garlic if you like, along with other favorite add-ons. Green For Life has a number of savory green smoothie recipes. :)
  • I know that episode! Pretty funny, huh? I really enjoy durian right out of the freezer straight. I also like it blended with banana in a chocolate smoothie. But it’s a little much if I have it straight in a smoothie or pudding. :)

  • RawNutrition.ca: Great info! I wonder if the Wholesome Foods brand is truly raw. That’s the brand my local co-op carries. I’ll have to check it out. :)
  • I wonder if the enzymes and other nutrients in agave have a higher temperature tolerance of 118 degrees, since it’s a desert plant. The temperature inside the agave plant can reach well over 100 degrees in the midday sun, I’m sure. :)
  • So I bought another frozen whole durian, waited until it was “willing” to be devoured, and I have to say it was very tasty, but the fibrous part of the fruit is slightly nauseating. The creamy, custardy part is great, though. It will just take a lit…
  • msrawdiva: It’s supposed to smell strongly maybe a day or two after the longitudinal splits develop. However, I bought a frozen one last week, and I keep waiting for split to develop. It never did, and mold started growing on it today. I had to thro…
  • moxandspaceships: If the appearance scares you, you can buy it frozen and deshelled. They sell it by the pound. Luna blu: You can tell it’s ready and willing to be eaten when it smells strongly, along with the longitudinal split that develops. :)
  • Her books changed my life! Juicing wasn’t working for me. I was always weak and fatigued. After attending her lecture, and reading Green For Life, I started consuming green smoothies, and I have never looked back. I noticed a big difference in my en…
  • I personally don’t add ice, just because it shocks the body when cold food is consumed. Some raw fooders like cold smoothies, though, so go for it if it helps you to transition. LOL :)

  • I think the pear, fig & kale (with a little Himalayan Crystal Salt) green smoothie is pretty great. When fall comes around, and both bosc pears and fresh figs are both in season, I’ll give this a try. So far, I’ve only tried bosc pears with drie…

  • Here’s my two cents’ worth on cacao and young coconut: Coconut is a seed, the largest seed in the world. However, young coconut has a different nutritional profile, since it’s lower in fat. It’s still considered a seed, but with less fat, and of cou…

  • RawKidChef: Sorry it’s taken so long to get back to you, I’ve had trouble logging on recently. I don’t know much about growing anything! Maybe another member can help. However, I’ve heard seedsofchange.com has good quality seeds. Try to get some goo…

  • What I’ve read recently is that store-bought fruitarianism is not sustainable in the long run, just because of all the hybridized fruit on the shelves. It’s recommended that you try to eat wild fruit. Maybe even grow your own fruit trees in your bac…

  • Here’s some more info I read about extremely healthy fruits that are practically complete foods: Seeded grapes and raisins have the sugars and the fat (from the seeds). Add grape leaves, and you’ve got the chlorophyll as well. Apricots are also very…

  • heyitsmahsa: I heard about some guy who at 10 avocados a day, and still lost weight. Avocadoes have lipase, the fat-splitting enzyme, and it can release the stored cooked fat in your body. Moth: Have fun on your fruitarian quest! Keep it up with tho…

  • Here’s what I’ve read about fruitarianism: I’ve read eating a fruitarian diet can lead to mineral loss in the long-term. It’s like ok in the short-term, but in the long-term, be careful. Fruitarians can also run into vitamin B deficiencies, and long…

  • I’ve been reading up more on food combining, and here’s what I found. Raw cruciferious veggies can be eaten with low sugar fruits like bell peppers or cucumbers. I guess the reason why broccoli can cause problems is because it’s bound up in fiber mo…
  • LisaNewf: Maybe digestive enzymes can help you with your tummy troubles. I think all the fiber might take your body some getting used to. heyitsmahsa: You can try massaging the veggies with Himalayan Crystal Salt/Celtic Salt or a combo of lemon juic…
  • I personally like to use figs. It’s not as sugary as dates, but it gives a nice fruity sweetness. Raisins work as well. :)
  • Slosh-uh: I think you’re doing great! Healing yourself is two steps forward, one step back, but sometimes it’s one step forward, and two steps back. LOL. :)

  • Here’s a link for how to prepare Irish Moss, along with a few recipes: http://www.livingtreecommunity.com/store2/produ… Cheflandria’s Mango Cheesecake uses a little Irish Moss. I think she has a couple other dessert recipes which use it as well. :)

  • RawKidChef: How long have you been doing the raw foods diet? Maybe it will take some time to increase your digestive strength. I believe if you’re transitioning from SAD, it might take longer (I transitioned from a 4-year omnivorous organic diet, so…
