  • cool! good luck. also, any place where things grow is a good place to be raw (by my definition, ct is only a cool place to be in the summer, or if you grow indoors)... if you can get local produce, you’re golden!
  • my feeling is that people who don’t eat salt lose the taste for it. you probably don’t need to add anything. otherwise, the soak liquid from dehydrating and soaking mushrooms works nicely as a braggs substitute.
  • malene trut—not sure. i know you can’t eat either garlic or onions as a meal, and so, that’s a pretty good gauge of how much of them you want in your diet. i gave them up, as an experiment, 2 weeks ago like ardes. we’ll see. i’m not sure it’ll stick…
  • winona- i hadn’t ever heard it before either. i read gabriel cousens’ book. he takes a cellular approach too, but he doesn’t explain how gas is behind it all. i’ve been asking friends who do biology to get a deeper perspective on it… waterbaby—why t…
  • it’s in matt monarch’s book “raw spirit.” there’s a section called “the science behind it all.” i HIGHLY recommend this book, esp. for the interview with dr. fred bisci who is a 80-ish year old (and BEAUTIFUL) raw foodist.
  • sake is made from cooked rice. not raw. “nama” or “raw” sake means it hasn’t been pasteurized. since most bottled things are pasteurized i suppose that makes it a novelty item, but it’s still COOKED.
  • eliminating the fish and egg whites can only make you glow. animal products are devoid of fiber and get stuck in the grooves of our corrugated colon (which resembles that of an hervivore, NOT a carnivore, whose colon looks more like a smoothe pipe).…
  • has anyone else noticed that some of the bars now say “unheated” rather than “raw”?
  • one thing i wished i had known before i went SHOPPING: check the dead food list on purelyraw.com. just because it’s in a raw cookbook doesn’t make it raw. we don’t need cooked food to make raw foods taste yummy. there is always an alternative (which…

  • el-bo. firstly, yes, my research INCLUDES doug graham. i have listened to that interview as well with gianni. also, agreeing with angie. we’re all here to learn. i am personally very wary of people who profess to know “the truth.” AND, i am in no wa…
  • i am a little surprised to find out el-bo, that you have been advocating a diet that you don’t even follow yet. anyone educated can present good arguments for following their diet. i have personally read and tried out many raw “diets” (agreed, bad w…
  • not at all. this took me a while too. ;)
  • but you also want to include processed junk in there right? how about: “my diet consists of plant foods, mostly in their natural uncooked state. i enjoy fresh fruit, (fill in gaps here), etc.” i do not eat meat, fish (some people don’t consider that…
  • grassdude—no clue. when i was in fiji someone offered me raw sugar cane to suck on (freshly cut) and it was really yummy. in its pure form i can’t see that it would be that bad. if it’s “evaporated” (even below 115 degrees) then it becomes a concent…
  • i usually look at things in terms of “is it better for me than what i’m doing?” black tea is better than coffee green tea is better than black white tea is better than green herbal infusions are better than white tea… on so forth. be wherever you ar…
  • what’s good to order. most of the stuff seems like things i can get at my health food store. any recommendations for “special things”?
  • zoe- your instincts sound right about PF&W. my feeling is they mainly cater to a posh omnivore crowd that wants a little something different now and again when they dine out. it’s definitely a lovely place, but i wish their ingredient integrity …
  • the last time i went to pure food & wine i got horribly sick. it’s pretty dense food. even though it’s delicious.
  • thanks! =) it’s cool to meet other raw musicians.
  • a lot of music happenings here. must be the season. =) i just released my first album two days ago: myspace.com/portersinger i’ll add your bf.
  • thank el-bo. i’m impressed. i have to send this to my brother! the only other thing i’d be curious about is a study of an aged raw builder. i’m sure raw body builders would be healthIER, but how do they fare over time? does it still put undue stress…
  • a personal trainer once told me that if you have mostly slow-twitching muscle fiber you will not bulk up. some bodies just CAN’T bulk up. that will have nothing to do with how strong they are though. on another note, bulk seems really unhealthy to m…
  • if your profile tells the truth you haven’t been raw for very long. it is NOT a good idea to eat too many fats because your body just doesn’t need them… but it does NOW because you are transitioning. think of it this way: you are severely constricti…
  • cleansing without going colonics in my opinion (and many experts who know a lot more about it than i do) is asking for autointoxication. your cells are releasing toxins (i learned today that they are actually releasing gas… for anyone who wants thei…
  • el-bo—totally agree, food is a distraction for the body. we need it for essential nutrients and then it needs to clear OUT of the body to let it heal. BUT losing all my hair is not how i personally want to heal. EVEN if your hair was toxic and your …
  • hey elbo—i get your slant (calories) but i think you are wrong. here’s mine (cellular health): telling someone to eat more fruit when they are feeling horrible detox systems is the worst idea possible. going from a horrible diet to a raw one overnig…
  • excessive fat intake in the long term is dangerous, but i think for a lot of this it’s more of a phase when we transition. i don’t think it’s something you need to worry about at first because your body is used to far worse things that harmless raw …
  • heard him speak. he sounds very knowledgeable. i think that if you have been raw (with mostly fresh foods) for a while, are very active, and live in a warm climate, this is a great diet choice. his idea is that we should get most of our calories fro…
  • hey, personally it took me 6 months to transition! one day i woke up and i was like “let’s do this.” i went 100%. for me, it really helped that i had gone 100% for 2 months BEFORE the “transition” so i knew what it felt like. then i took my time mak…
  • matt amsden (of rawvolution) sent in a young coconut (“best” variety) to the lab and it came back NEGATIVE for formaldehyde. i read an article that said this was urban legend (it was posted on one of these forums) if someone can show me evidence tha…
