  • I eat raw at home—but it is just “raw” to me. I’ve learned on this forum that things I thought were raw aren’t really (almonds- and probably the other nuts and seeds I get- but I’m not sure, the olive oil I get probably isn’t, agave nectar, raisins)…

  • (just being a goofball about the “jedi” thing. It’s something we say to each other in our family for a good laugh.) But seriously, the words, love, intention, was all meant for you, VeggiePrincess. Reason being: your husband hasn’t posted anything a…
  • I am going to have him read Jellibi’s posts because I feel they apply more to him than me! Thanks! Trust me, young jedi, those words were for you and not your husband :)
  • I also wanted to say, be gentle with yourself, VeggiePrincess, after reading these posts. I reread my post and some of the others and realized that if this was advice to myself a couple of months ago I would have felt upset or ashamed. But trust me—…
  • I realize that when I am hard on my husband about food and health choices it is most often when I am struggling with making a decision within myself. For example: I am having a hard time sticking to 100% raw. I just haven’t made up my mind yet wheth…
  • mmmm, jenoz! I want to come to your place for breakfast :)

  • just offer lots of variety and they will pick what they need. bananna, that is great advice. That’s what we do here too :)
  • My daughter is 12, so I have a little bit of a different experience… but she eats mostly raw fruit and then a cooked vegan meal 1 to 2 times a week. She does eat greens, veggies, and nuts and seeds too, but not nearly as much as she eats fruit. I wa…
  • Marichiesa, you could be allergic to cashews, many people are. In their raw form, they contain the same oil (urishiol) as is found in poison ivy. They make my mouth and throat swell up too—so do mangoes, although not as bad.
  • What a beautiful post. :)

  • heartbrooklyn, I just read Fresh by Sergei and Valya last night. I loved it. They are both so wise. the Boutenko family is just so inspiring. I went to Ashland last weekend and I just kept praying to run into one of them around town ;) I didn’t, but…

  • Yeah, it’s a lot to think about. My quote came from a lecture that he gave on April 14th, 1921. One thing that I think about a lot is that although Steiner’s teachings are amazing, and Waldorf schools are amazing… but they are also in some ways outd…
  • Kevyn, I went searching through Steiner lectures to find your quote so I could read more. I couldn’t find it, but I did find this: There must really be no fanaticism of any kind in medical art — for example, fanatical adherence to an uncooked diet. …
  • Kevyn, wow! Where are you reading that from? That’s interesting! I want to read more about his opinion on this. Yes, Waldorf is not for raw food at all. In Nourishing Traditions (a common Waldorf family cookbook) they even recommend cooking lettuce!…
  • Are you sure about Emerson? Hmm, I’m going to have to look into that. That would be awesome. But I got the impression that Emerson was often making fun of Alcott (Sr.) for his eating habits- which led me to believe that he wasn’t raw or vegan… This …
  • cuyahogariverraw, that is so interesting. Poor guys, they would probably roll over in their graves if they were to see what their inventions have turned into. heathermarsbomb, so true. I read once that fruit in general used to be not even close to a…
  • So, so, so, so (to the one-hundredth-millionth power) worth it. I love my VitaMix. And yep, you can use it to make juices. Just blend everything up and then strain it through a nut mylk bag.
  • Erin, that’s a good idea to have them help make the food, I’ll do that for breakfast and lunch today :) Aw, Dagny, thank you! :)

  • Thanks so much for the great advice everyone. I decided to make a raw corn chowder—I was afraid the pad thai “noodles” might be too weird and maybe a little too spicy. We’ll see how it goes. And—I asked my daughter what she wanted me to make for din…

  • Yep bananna, I think that’s right.
  • The book Nourishing Traditions has a lot of information on cholesterol. Beware, it is not a raw vegan book at all, but it is a good reference book. Here are some things that the author, Sally Fallon, says about cholesterol: “Our blood vessels can be…
  • angie :) Yeah, I see how it could work both ways :) !!!
  • cherie03—yes, that is so much my issue. My husband was heating up leftovers a few weeks ago, something with meat in it, and I literally had to leave the house. It isn’t just an ethical issue—it was a very strong physical response. The smoking too. :…
  • That’s a good idea, heyenglish!
  • Also, if you read MOTHs first post again, it seems to be that what she desires most is someone to share her raw lifestyle with. (sorry to talk about you in 3rd person MOTH, as if you weren’t even here, lol) but that’s just what I gathered from what …
  • I agree with what you are saying, Superfood. That’s why it causes so much inner turmoil. However, like bananna touches on, it’s just hard to see someone you love not take good care of themselves. I don’t think there is anything wrong though, when yo…
  • MOTH, I know exactly what you mean and I think it is so good for you that you are able to identify what you want in a partner. My husband is not raw, not even vegan or vegetarian…. drinks, smokes, eats meat—I don’t do any of those things. And, he ha…
