  • I am not sure if this is anything that you would be interested in al all, (Meditating might want to chime in on this as she has first-hand experience) but I would do an internet search on Camphill Communities. They are intentional communities for pe…

  • Oops, sorry Branwyn. I thought it was raw, but it’s probably not. Yep, it’s pretty expensive, but I don’t eat a lot at a time. Maybe a tablespoon or so a day (in my morning smoothie), so a bag lasts a couple of weeks.
  • Instead of using the hemp protein powders you could try just using hemp seeds in your green smoothies. I can’t really taste them at all.
  • I am interested in this topic too. We have been hoping to get pregnant for over 5 years now, with no luck. Really, we’ve given up “trying” at this point, but I would still be interested in reading about other people’s knowledge and experience. Sorry…
  • You’re a smart kid, RKC! I, too, thought it was annoying how McCain kept going back to the “honored to meet the troops” thing. He also, over and over again, addressed the veterans rather than the American people as a whole. I guess he’s thinking tha…
  • Yes, I agree, aspire… the VP debate will be fun to watch next week, won’t it?!
  • Meditating- :) so true! aspire- Really?l@$*lsfrandomjibberishwhichshowsthatmymindcantcomprehendwhatijustreadjiejfie#$!!Seriously? What are they thinking?! Yes, I guess people do see what they want to see.
  • My husband told me that the “hole in the head” comment was mean, so I hurried home after walking our dog so that I could delete it. But, it’s too late now. Guess I’ll have to roll with the punches :) I should add: I am sorry if anyone finds it offen…
  • Me too, Dagny :) (about crushing on women…) But for me it’s probably more about wanting to improve on a quality of myself than it’s about a crush. So, my vote goes to Jinjee. She just seems so beautiful and kind and lovely inside and out. And such a…
  • Hi v, I live in Milwaukie, just SE of Portland. I love Ashland, it is my favorite Oregon vacation spot. You have the best food co-op…. so lucky!
  • Hi vegan, I think I remember you saying that you live in Oregon, like me. If so, you may have gotten a virus that’s going around. My husband, daughter and I all got it and it gave us stomach upset and a headache. It was strange because it wasn’t qui…
  • Rest assured, this post really got me thinking. I was thinking that the least I can do is not continue to buy any more animal products. I have enough leather shoes and wool sweaters to last a lifetime, so I certainly don’t need to buy any more of th…
  • RawKidChef- I love Hanna Andersson too. You’re right, their clothing is great. About the beeswax, I think it is just as cruel to the bees to take their wax as it is to take their honey, unfortunately. I was wondering if there were any alternatives. …
  • I’m trying to think of ways to use bee products and wool less. I use honey for sore throats, scrapes, and sometimes as a sweetener. I can use maple syrup or raw agave for a sweetener, that’s easy. But does anyone know of another all-natural remedy f…
  • RawKidChef: That’s great! We live in Oregon and she goes to the Portland Waldorf School, one of the few Waldorf schools that are nursery through High School. Is Calvert school a Waldorf homeschool program? Too bad you don’t live closer! My daughter …
  • Thanks for the info on wool, vegan. I have already researched it. Your advice: think anytime we act on behalf of others, regardless of their species, is the best choice for all concerned. We can never go wrong when compassion is what motivates are d…
  • I think it is more than just taste/flavor that keeps people using bee products. The honey is medicinal. It is good for you in a way that agave nectar (or any other sweetener that I know of) is not. And, I guess for me, the thing that keeps me away f…
  • RawKidChef, If that seemed condescending to you in any way I apologize. I’m the mom of a 12-year-old girl so I guess I’m being protective. I would never want anyone talking to my daughter that way. And especially because you brought up a very, very …
  • Superfood, please check out RawkidChef’s profile so that you can see who you are speaking to in such an unkind way. Your point is valid, but you could try being a little more kind (to everybody, for that matter) (please?!)
  • Oh, duh, you’re right. They don’t rely on the keeper for food. :) Obviously my brain isn’t working too well this morning :) What does a beekeeper do then? Just take the honey?
  • This thread also got me thinking about this: I wonder how domesticated bees are by now. I really have no idea. If lots of people were to limit bee product consumption, and farmers did not “keep” hives, would the amount of bees go up or down? It’s li…
  • I don’t think that scientists are in agreement about what is going on yet. Some probably believe it’s a virus, while others think it is due to GMO crops (likely, in my opinion), others think maybe cellphones are to blame, and some believe, as I stat…
  • I’m not sure if it’s been proven that it is a virus, troubles. But I do know that a study was done in Oregon and only the bees that did not live on organic farms were disappearing. This makes sense because bees that do not live on organic farms get …
  • Are you feeling more tension on the yarn as you go? It can simply be that your yarn is pulling tighter as you progress down your row. Are you knitting from a ball, a skein, or a hank? Maybe if you are knitting with a skein, you grabbed the wrong end…

  • I researched this awhile ago and I found a lot of literature that said that carrot tops were toxic. However, since I had been eating them for sometime already and was feeling fine, I continued to eat them. Maybe use caution feeding them to children.…

  • Yes, doombot and dodo, keep us updated as to how everything is going and let us know if you need any support :)
  • doombot, I’m so, so sorry to hear that your dad has bladder cancer. I first read your post a couple hours ago and then went to take a nap (I think I’m getting the cold/flu that’s been going around too) and anyway, while I was falling asleep I was th…
  • Tunacupcakes, it might be a food allergy. For me, it happens when I eat raw pistachios, cashews, or mangoes (esp. cashews). I never knew that I had this problem until I started eating raw foods, but apparently a lot of people are allergic to cashews…

  • Moth, remember that it’s also okay to not defend yourself and your raw food lifestyle. Instead, you can simply say something like, “I don’t want to discuss this with you” or “Please let me have peace and quiet during my lunch break” or “I find your …
