How do I Sprout??

Hi everyone,

I’m new to this whole thing, and love it! Can someone please tell me
how to sprout, specifically Kamut. I’m making the “Original Nuttah”
Bars, published on this site, and all I know is put it water, and let
it grow. There has to be more to it then that… ! Also, when a recipe
says “6 cups Kamut, Sprouted” is that about the same as 6 cups of kamut,
pre-sprouting??

Thank you so much!!
Freda

This site has been an amazing resource! If you’re interested in doing alot of sprouting, you could get a sprouting kit… it’s basically like a mini-garden. You should be able to get one at any natural food store.
About the recipe, maybe ask the author/chef for clarification.

  • soak the Kamut for about 8 hours (rinse twice)
rinse and let it germinate in the dark overnight (quart jars are good for this if you don’t have specific sprouting equipment, or use any jar or bowl)
leave it to grow (rinse 2-4 times a day)
when it has a short tail, about 1/4 inch long, it is good to go

  • Here is a YouTube video that shows the process. I just sprouted some adzuki beans for my salad and ate them today.

    Here’s the YouTube link: http://youtube.com/watch?v=jvDggHRwHEw&feature=...

Once there, you will see other videos on sprouting that may be of interest to you.
