  • Cashews do not need to be soaked... unless the recipe calls for (it would be just for texture then). Soak nuts in water... about twice more water than nuts so (I'm guessing) the water can hold more of the enzyme inhibitors being removed. The purpose…

  • Raw Food Testimonials: http://www.rawfamily.com/videos/testimonials.html Hallelujah Acres may have something.
  • I hear you delaluna. I'm not 100%, but since eating more raw my digestion complains a lot when I eat a poorly food-combined meal... especially nuts and fruit. Though, someone mentioned acidic fruits and nuts can be combined... I haven't tried it out…

  • How about a VitaMix... and you can blend green smoothies... then put the "smoothie" through a cheesecloth to remove a lot of the fiber, thus making it more like juice. It's easy to clean. Well... it's an alternative choice to juicing.
  • Hmmm, I have to check my "Sweet Gratitude" book... I must've missed that! Thanks for the info.
  • Awesome, thank you so much for the reply. Doesn't sound like anyone has dehydrated it. I figure it would be like making Agar-Agar... Irish Moss flakes!
  • General rule, 1/4 to 1/3 the amount of almonds to water. Fill the jar with almonds... then cover and add 2 to 3 times more water. So, that's a lot of water for a gallon! .. and then add more almonds & water because the pulp will be removed.
  • juicefastfan: Don't mix starches and proteins? Really? I'm not so sure about that... that's the first I heard about it. I should check the food combining chart.

  • YOu can mix leafy greens with fruits... OR starchy vegetables. But you shouldn't mix starchy vegetables with fruits... that would be poor food combining. Yup, I know what you mean about the nuts... I am wondering if nut milk food combines with fruit…

  • Check www.MilkShare.com! This is a very old post... but I must revive it to get 'the word' out. :-) The above are great recommendations. I also recommend to read Mother Food for Breastfeeding Mothers. Excellent book on galactagogue foods! I never he…
  • Are you talking about cooked beans/lentiles or germinated/sprouted? If cooked, do you soak the beans/lentiles before cooking? This removes the enzyme inhibitors... (which cooking does the same), but I (total guess here) think that removing them comp…
  • Hmmmm, this is getting trickier to figure out... :o) Is the lemon ripe? Does calcium help tooth sensitivity?

  • Correct. Leafy greens are not starchy. Carrots are. Zucchini... hmmmm.... If it's not that, check that article out...
  • What was in the green smoothie? Starchy veggies and fruit together may cause gas. It's important that the toxins released get out of the body. A cleanse, such as salt water flush in the morning, could help. Here's an interesting explanation: Matt Mo…
  • Sometimes a salt water flush helps... (but it would have to be the first thing to do in the morning). Glad to hear food combining helped you! Yeay.
  • Hi Kate, Thank you for the reply! I'm in the US, but I always like checking out raw food magazines. Sounds like you have great articles; I like the idea of connecting the local voices... By any chance, would you be posting a downloadable sample of a…
  • Anyone read this magazine?

  • So, no garlic & onion! Interesting! I heard lemon juice can keep away mosquitos... haven't put it to the test though. Does it matter if it's cooked or raw garlic/onion? I'm curious. We have ticks in this area... and we're not 100% raw.

  • Yes, basil pesto seems easy... every time I tried to guess the ingredients... something didn't taste quite right. I think I was missing the garlic. Thanks for the recipe, and best of all the tips for preserving!
  • I decided not to defrost and re-blend. BUT, Sweet Gratitude mentions to check for desired consistency whether refrigerating or freezing (I think). Check in 20 minutes after refrigerating if it's the desired consistency; if not, re-blend w/ X and voi…
  • Ooo, I see you made it with the Spinach Masala. I may have to try it. I'm thinking of defrosting the apricot cake, re-blending it with lecithin and coconut oil... and hope it will be okay then. Alternatively, I can serve it as a pudding or in bite-s…
  • I made the apricot "yogurt" cake. I was wondering how they were going to make it "hold" without an emulsifier...so, being that this is my first recipe to make out of this book, I didn't add one. It turns out, it didn't hold! Best served straight fro…
  • Okay everyone... is anyone gonna guess at what that is on page 81? *hehe* Btw, JoyceH, I've always wanted to make the tamales. Now, back to the original question. :o) What can I say, I'm curious what that is.
  • Hmmm, it could be tomato. But, I'm not convinced the "white" one is a tomato - or is it?! :o)
  • Well, Alissa's level one class is so basic, whether $25 or $125. Appifanie, you got a good deal for a class. But an even better deal if you actually got the certificate. I paied $100, plus $25 for the certificate for a $125 total. Of course, I didn'…
  • What $25? I feel ripped off! (I paid more.) Did you get the certificate?
  • Thanks RawLibrarian. Good info. I totally agree that Alissa Cohen's class is certainly not to prepare anyone for the food industry. They don't even teach you about the HACCP or Food Handling. Raw food and hygiene are so important! BTW, Russell James…
  • Sorry, I didn't mean to say you said that... I was wondering if that included Living Light. Yeah, I agree, that Soria's program looks pretty good... it would be 'too bad' if it's not good experience for a professional restaurant setting. I would wan…
