  • Nuts that are shelled do become toxic as they sit in the air, but I wouldn’t worry too much about that. I have 10 pounds of pistachios in the fridge, 3 pounds macadamias, 1 pound cashews and 1 pound almonds. They do fine when you chill them.
  • Really raw nuts will actually develop mold over time if you don’t refrigerate them. I always refrigerate them to avoid this. Just store what you have room for and as you eat them your other nuts can make way into the fridge.
  • Who says you have to eat greens to do a raw diet? She could still benefit from mostly fruit diet with small amounts of nuts and such. I don’t eat any leafy greens barely at all any more. I do eat algae which has Vit K but I could certainly live with…
  • Also wanted to mention if you add 3 caps probiotic powder (like acidophilous) and stir that in the butter, close it up, and let it sit in the fridge for a few weeks, it will turn into cheese! Queenfluff said she left tahini in the fridge for a month…
  • Also wanted to mention you should try grinding a frozen (or fresh) banana with almond milk 3 heaping tablespoons of the hemp butter, maybe a date or dash of agave or maple if it’s not sweet enough. But bananas are very sweet. Have you thought about …
  • lzhpt, you should buy the sprouted almond butter from Real Raw Food (if you don’t mind that 100$ minimum) and store it refrigerated. It comes out somewhat dry and crumbly because it is truly sprouted and no oils. You should store it refrigerated. It…
  • I’ve seen that hemp seeds so great in chocolate! Try blending some cacao butter and agave (and some cacao powder if you want, or mix in some cacao nibs) and freeze it in squares or cubes. It comes out like fudge truffle squares! Nice.
  • True, trouble!
  • There are very few raw foods that actually contain complete proteins but those that do are amazing. I am referring to the blue green algae, hemp seeds, and a few other exotic superfoods. But eating a good balance of nuts and these superfoods will gi…
  • Well, actually, there is such a thing as “organic” sea salt. Regular sea salt comes from the world’s polluted oceans and is therefore not completely pure. Himalayan sea salt, on the other hand, is not from polluted oceans apparently. I read this fro…
  • Cooked foodists are not only eating hugely excessive salt but they are also eating refined, totally junk table salt. The kind of salt in fast food sure ain’t no sea salt. I believe salt is vital. I found that Himalayan salt is so good, it even beats…
  • Yes, even if you’re buying Californian “truly raw” almonds than that is lying. Natural Zing’s Californian almonds are indeed pasteurized, otherwise what they are doing is illegal. I buy the unheated wild Spanish almonds from Real Raw Food. They make…

  • I wouldn’t touch an Indian store selling “raw” almonds with a ten foot pole, even if their almonds are raw. I just feel better knowing that what I’m getting is organic and from reliable sources. 1. Yes, I do eat nuts. Whenever I eat them I always be…

  • Well, nuts in the US are really hard to find so I don’t take a risk. I shop at www.realrawfood.com because the nuts are so cheap compared to Sunfood and Rawguru and I know the nuts are raw. They are also much better quality in my opinion than some o…
  • lzhpt, I love walnuts too! I gathered some black walnuts (those green balls that fall from trees outside) without knowing they were black walnuts. I cut the green peel off and there was a black oily-like substance that stained my hands yellow-brown.…

  • Well, beechnuts! Chestnuts come in second. Here’s a useful chart: http://www.thenutfactory.com/kitchen/facts/fact…

  • Yes, they will be out!
  • Hi Kendra, no, you don’t need to dilute the vinegar. You may if you choose to though. 1sweetpea, I sure could post this as a recipe! Good idea. I will pick some potatoes up at the store and make it in the next week, or less. :)
  • Raw potatoes are actually known to have cleansing properties. I have made some raw potato chips that come eerily close to the real thing, simply by slicing them very fine in ribbons using a spiralizer (it’s really important to get them thin because …

  • I’ve been trying to update a picture of Blueberry, in my profile photo. As soon as that problem is fixed you can see a picture of her too. She is such a frisky little brat, you wouldn’t believe how cute and childish she can be. haha
  • Great question, LovefoodLaughter! When my cat had her first mouse, we were buying mice for our snake and she just had to have one (you know how that goes :)) so we gave her one. After that, we let 3 days pass where she would refuse the ground food. …
  • Even so, the best quality meat comes from whole prey. If you buy raw meat from the store, it should to be organic (just googled it and organic meat cannot be irradiated), and unground. Thanks for pointing that out TomsMom.
  • It is CRUCIAL NOT to buy raw meat from the store. It is irradiated by government law and therefore dead. Also, DO NOT feed ground raw meat. This stuff is not good. Cats a true carnivores and have sharp teeth that are designed for chewing tough raw b…

  • Oh man when the chip samples are out at the grocery store (which is every day) that is hard.
  • I tried a week once and some “cream” separated to the top! I got excited but it smelled spoiled. I think 5 days is the maximum.
  • eloisaweesa: I have the same feeling, but frozen bananas are like candy! They are so good in nut milk smoothies. I am eating lots of grapes. I LOVE those red globe grapes, they are HUGE, with seeds (much better for cleansing with seeds), and are les…

  • Frozen fruit is can’t replace fresh because the enzymes aren’t as active/fiber isn’t as good. I’m thriving on pineapples, my favorite fruit.
