  • Blanching is definitely not raw. Blanching is generally practiced to kill enzymes. It involves a quick immersion in boiling water. I suppose it is possible to blanch just long enough to remove the skins without doing damage but I would be skeptical …
  • I only recently discovered these wonderful little seeds. I had to ask if my local store had them after I looked exhaustively for them. I didn’t know they were also known by the name “Anutra”. Anutra is the white chia seed and quite a bit more expens…
  • Hmmmm…I’m approaching my choice of a raw diet the same way I approach my recovery from drugs, alcohol and smoking. The only change I can control is for me. It’s been my experience that as I go thru this journey, others notice the changes and if they…

  • Just a thought, maybe you could powder your nuts, pack in ziplocks and add the water on site. Pack a nut bag to strain the pulp and use the pulp in your meals.

  • I’ve had the cheaper dehydrators and they were fine at the time. However I wasn’t using them the way I use one now. An Excalibur is definately worth it!

  • Awww…congrats! This IS an exciting time for you! I have two wonderful boys and I remember when we got to see our “gummy bears” for the first time, lol. VERY kewl! BTW Holly, you might want to block some of the personal info at the top of the pic to …
  • Unfortuntely I tried the simpler approach with little success. With my crazy work schedule it’s too easy to forget to tend to the sprouts. So I’ve recently invested in an automated sprouter system. Pricey but considering the cost of store sprouts, n…

  • Skinning just yields a whiter product. Other than losing some of the fiber there are no repercussions! As for the slow site and the can not display messagss, I have no idea. I’ve been having the same problem since the new upgrades!
  • I’ve done that many times without any ill effects. Sometimes I’ll go ahead and run them thru the blender then put the container in the fridge and finish up the next day.
  • I’ve peeled my almonds and put them in an airtight container many times without any ill effects. I don’t know that soaking them a second time is necessary. Sometimes I’ll go ahead and run them thru the blender then put the container in the fridge an…
  • Glad it was what you were looking for! I LOVE Google, lol.
  • I found this link when I googled for the recipe. I’m not sure if it’s what you are looking for though! Link:http://archives.zinester.com/1819/42773.html

  • Gorawmom- Indiana? May I inquire what part of the state? It’s nice to see fellow hoosiers here! Going raw is pretty tough in this part of the country, lol.

  • Buckwheat is a seed. Millet and kamut are grains.
  • There are a number of reasons why your protein levels may be low and it may not be your diet that is the problem. I’m surprised that your doctor is testing your protein levels and not talking to you about what to do next! Low protein levels may be a…
  • Please be aware that in the United States companies are not required to identify GMO products as such on the label. Also be aware that organic farms CAN be contaminated by GMO farms. This is an incredibly complicated subject! Google it and be blown …
  • I have the Excaliber 9 tray. I chose it because I recognized that I would be using it like an “oven” in many recipes so size was an issue. I also wanted to be able to do more at once to save prep time. You will definitely want the teflex sheets as w…

  • Are you using a high quality grinder? If it gets hot, you may be ruining the flax during the grinding stage.
  • I agree, raw maple syrup (sap) is only available during season and usually only locally. I have found a few that are willing to ship but I haven’t checked out the details of costs, etc. As I understand it, untreated syrup (sap) is watery and doesnt’…

  • Wheatgrass has a very short lifespan. You cut the blades close to the dirt and juice them. Sometimes you can get a second growth from the cut plant but generally the plant is done once you’ve cut it.
  • Wild Oats was recently bought out by Whole Foods. Our local store is in transition to the Whole Foods line of products. I was very disappointed in the changes that have already taken place. The juice bar is gone, several of the raw products that I h…
  • As powerful as a Vita Mix is, short pulses are fine. It takes a few minutes of constant running to bring up the heat.
  • I always get comments when I go grocery shopping. Complete strangers, checkout people, etc. I’ve never understood why anyone would pay attention to what I purchase, lol. At least the comments have always been friendly.
  • Glad to see everyone is returning and doing well! Miss you guys!
  • I’m not sure what equipment you have available in your kitchen. I use my juicer, it’s an auger type. With the blank plate it makes perfect dough!
  • I recently bought a book that might be of interest to you if you’re looking for quick fix recipes, “Alive in 5” by Angela Elliot. It’s not new but it’s a great little book. No cheesecake but definitely alot of great recipes.
